Hmmm...

Any chance these have decent bass?

LOL and furthermore: Any chance they're really headphones instead of ear-speakers or whatever they're now?

The K1000 are nice sounding devices, but IMO not headphones

Agree, they are not headphones. They were never marketed as such - hence being called ear-speakers. Regarding bass - to each his own I guess...a lot depends on one's taste, what they want from the music, and most importantly, ancilary equipment. Having heard the K1000 with some proper amplification, I have found its bass superior to any dynamic (and stat for that matter) headphone (or earspeaker

It's about time! I guess I should de-wax my ears in anticipation. I just hope that all this effort on my part will not turn out for naught.

If they were not to be ear speakers anymore, then why bother re-releasing them, since they'd no longer be the same product?

Is that with the Almarro A318B

OT I know but just quickly, have you measured? Have you heard 20Hz? 30Hz? Have you compared them to D5000 or DX1000?

Back on topic, that would be cool

but I won't start holding my breath yet. I think it's unlikely. I have been wrong before though.

Guess we can only wait and see...

It would be cool, but an unverified rumor of an email with an AKG rep as proof... sorry, no offense to the OP, but I'm not going to hold my breath. I think there's even less of a market for esoteric, ultra-high-end headphones than there ever was, especially ones with the bling and flashy appeal of a dead dog. The K701 is certainly showing AKG what works in the business world (as far as I know), and if AKG's alleged reasons for discontinuing the K1k are true (manufacturing costs too high and sales too low), then the K1000 also showed them what not to do as well. Though they should have learned that lesson with the K240 Sextett, K340, and heck knows what else besides, which were all highly complex designs that were very expensive to produce. The fact that they didn't may give us hope for more good products from AKG in the future.

I'd count on more limited edition products from Grado and Audio-Technica, but I wouldn't bet on this. But please AKG, prove me wrong.

K1000s ... ahhh I want one or two! Nothing would be better than to restart the production.

None taken, but as you may have read I did say this was only a brief email from the guys locally who had been in touch with AKG HQ, so it may not hold much weight. so we are pretty much on the same page

I push for a re-launch, preferably of an enhanced version, at least with a better quality cable.

I wouldn't know about enhanced versions. We know how these manufactures consider "enhancements".

Take the new Stax 007 for example.
