The AKG K 702 K702 IN Stock at Moon Audio. just walked in the door. I must say they are so much sexier looking than the White K701. I am building detacheable cables as we speak for them and will be getting parts to do Hardwiring

The K 702 are the new reference for open-back dynamic AKG headphones. They combine an extremely accurate response with yet unseen agility and spaciousness. This is achieved by using revolutionary flat-wire voice coils and a patented Varimotion™ two-layer diaphragm. A totally open design and a high performance cable complete these reference headphones.

Their comfortable, specially shaped “3D-form” ear pads and a padded genuine-leather headband ensure a perfect fit. They are individually tested and numbered.

K 702 – experience pure perfection.
In a move to provide customers in the professional recording and broadcast community with superior sonic performance coupled with an attractive aesthetic design, AKG Acoustics introduced its new K 702 dynamic headphones at InfoComm '08

The new K 702 headphones advance the legacy and sonic integrity of the successful K 701, are accompanied by personalized fitting ear pads, light weight and come in a sleek stage blue finish to withstand the wear and tear of professional studio life.

“We wanted our K 702s to look as good as we know they sound,” explained Sonja Malzer, Product Manager, AKG. “The white K 701s were extremely successful and much loved as personal monitors, but they were victims of their own success and studio life took its toll on the pristine white. As such, we’re continuing the K 701 in white and we expect that product to be a very successful personal monitor but we’re now also offering the new K 702s for applications where there will be numerous discrete users and busier traffic.”

The AKG K 702 headphones feature besides its professional detachable cable a revolutionary flat-wire voice coil technology for accurate sound and transient response for professional use as well as around the ear headphones for personal use. The sound clarity is enhanced with the patented Varimotion 2-layer diaphragm, which produces clear highs and accurate bass response. The AKG K 702 headphones feature audio bandwidth of 10-39,800Hz, efficiency of 105dB SPL/V; max. input power: 200mW, rated impedance: 62 ohms and light weight of just 235g.

“Above all else, the new K 702 sounds exceptional!” Sonja Malzer continued. “Everyone who uses them speaks of the great sound and this underscores AKG’s 60-year heritage and single-minded commitment to quality audio in all applications!”

Well, they certainly look better than the K701. Does this confirm that they use a different driver than the K701 then? Have you managed to compare the K702 and K701?

Agree. Much better looking. Looking forward to comparisons. I think I might get myself a pair.

Hmmm...interesting. I don't recall reading that about the K702's before.

Are these pads somehow different than the 701's?

They just arrived in the shop. So don't know much, will break them open tonight to see if the drivers are the same as the K 701. It will take about 300 hrs of burn in for me to tell you weather they are better than the K 701. If they have new drivers. But from a cosmetic approach, so much better than the boring white.....

I think I'm the only one who thinks the white looks better. They should've gone black or grey.

Agreed. Gun metal gray would've been nice. : )

I've had some white 701's for several months now and absolutely love them, especially for classical music.

I couild care less about the colors (tho I'm not particuliarly a fan of white).

However, I'd be happy to upgrade to 702's just to get rid of those dayem goofy irrritating nubs on the bottom of the headstrap! Seriously!

Otherwise, they (the 701's) are sonically, and comfortably, shear bliss. I could easily live with 702's even if there were no technical or sonic changes from the 701's bar the smooth headstrap.

JMHO

Had some 601's and they sounded great, these look like a good buy if you can't stretch to some RS1's.

Whoever invented the detachable cable should be given an award, especially with my knack of snagging them on every piece of furniture in my bedroom.
