The supermacro and Sr-71 drive the HD 650s like a champ, I own a supermacro v1 and Demo'd some 650s with it. Worked like a charm.

The HD650 is a bit less efficient than the 50 ohm HD595, but still an efficient phone. The only "concern" here is the high impedance -- but only with a 9V battery powered cmoy or the like.

Nice, I might be getting a new one if the price is right. Did you bother to recable it?

I'm listening to Carol Kidd A Place in My Heart and I still cannot accept the brass. Its too piercing. The strings and the rest are fab though.

No recable -- as myself, I don't feel the least urge for that.

What is the impedance of the K501s? I'm assuming my supermacro will push them well?

Rated impedance of the K501s is 120 Ohms according to the packaging.

Ooh, the highest Z cans I'll own if I buy them. Sad that my ER-4s are the highest right now at 100 ohms.

I just tube rolled my XCan for fun. I replaced my EI tube (which is supposed to be warm sounding) with Elektro Harmonix (which is suppose to be all rounder according to my supplier).

I'm not sure whether it is self imposed placebo, but the AKG 501 doesn't seem to sound so shrill anymore (

I'm now eagerly waiting for the tubes to break in

As a sidenote, the AKG 501 is no better at presenting complex music passages (be it classical or otherwise) compared to the 595. The treble and midrange just comes forward and drowns out the percussion and bass to as certain extent.
