If you're new to this, you're really going out on a limb to pick one of these right off the bat.

What device(s) have you been using? What kind of music to you listen to? Do you need/want to stream? What's your preferred sound signature? What kind of earphones/cans will you use? There are many many choices below these in cost which sound very good.

Yes. All grate questions.

I have a rotel amp pre amp setup. Want to stream from a Synology NAS. NDA server. As far as a headset have a Senn HD 650. Started collecting FLACs and converting my CDs to FLACs as well.

Curious about this as well. Really thinking about getting the Kann but wonder how it compares to the AK120II

Oh I am interested in more opinions on this as I have always liked the ak120ii and am comparing it to Kann and some others. But have always liked the portability of the 120ii.

I agree, I've always liked the form factor of the AK120ii. It just works nicely. Unfortunately, the KANN never had anywhere near the same appeal, for me, and was easily disregarded (I've had the AK100ii, AK120ii, and the AK240) in favor of other brands. I've not seen the AK120ii new for $799, but BHPhoto is close at $899.

I see you have/had the Opus#2. The other I was considering is the Opus#2. How does the ak120ii compare to the opus#2?

Some people were comparing opus 2 to ak380, and it was very positive. I compared it to Wm1z and the Wm1z came out a winner. However, opus 2 is very close with different signature, and I have to say that it is a much better price to performances device in comparison. It was only that I had the options, so I opted for Wm1z :). Opus 3 is the newest addition to the family

Sent you a PM, but for the edification of others I'll say the Opus #3 sounds more similar to the AK120ii, to me but with better clarity and wider soundstage. The Opus #2, which you've referenced directly, is more analytical yet with a nice touch of musicality. However, gone is the touch of warmth notably present within the AK players in favor of better clarity and resolution, at least to my ears.

It was B&H Photo that was selling the AK120II for $749 for the player... then while looking at accessories I found the AK web site had the AK120II cradle for $99 and got one of those too... :) great little player at those prices...

Hi, is there a significant difference between a single AKM AK4490 DAC from the KANN and dual Cirrus-Logic CS4398 DAC from the AK120 II? I will use any of these DAP’s with HE400i, ATH-MSR7 and Shure SE535.

With the AK120ii, be prepared for a serious lack of bass with these specific headsphones/IEMs, so if you enjoy at least some decent bass, the Kann will do a much better job.
But if you're after "reference"/flat/whatever they call it, go ahead with AK120ii.
Your taste.
