I have a musical fidelity hpa mx head amp. This has the ability to deliver via two 3 pin xlr outputs fully balanced audio. It transforms unbalanced inputs to fully balanced.
You can not transform from single ended (one circuitry) into two circuits for balanced. You can only transfer, which is something totally different. Balanced is always like TWO amps. No way you could make two out of only one.

I made my own from neutrik and ampliphon connectors with van damm silver series cable. Cost around 30 pounds and yes I would say a big difference.

More control in the bass and sub bass. Much clearer and more forward mids and a slight taming of the very high frequencies. The dymanics went through the roof. Much more range between loud and quiet.

A very good headphone before I did this and that's out of the box. Now even better.
Placebo?

I own an MX-HPA myself, and this is how Musical Fidelity describes it:
“Inputs are either balanced or single-ended. The MX-HPA will automatically convert single-ended inputs to balanced. The MX-HPA is genuinely fully balanced from beginning to end.”

I’d love to have a better understanding of this as well. Maybe what they mean is the single ended gets, as you say, transferred, to balanced. Or are they full of hot air? 😂
