You're probably right about liking the sound signature, they are very neutral.  hd598s are on sale for $173 on Amazon atm, they're really superb for the price and also have great mids.  I prefer to buy from German dealers so I can't comment on the others.  (Yes I know akg is Austrian but same thing (no offense to any Austrians )).

The opportunity to get the HD598 cheaper than the others has come up. Is it worth it for acoustic, piano, vox, soft rock?
