I am thinking about getting one of these cans as my next upgrade. I listen to rock, hardcore, metal, acoustic, and rap music. I was wondering if these were good headphones.

I looked around and saw that they were mostly in that price range but the HD600s are 300.

So.... should I choose from these or think about another pair? I have HD555s BTW.

If u have HD555..then HD595 wont be a big change...and AD700 aint good with Bass..so u might not enjoy Rap music or the Drums in Metal.

Whats your budget?

HD600 are best for u..they do all kinds of music

The HD600 would be a great choice if you can get a good amp to go along with them. Otherwise something like the Beyerdynamic DT250-80 would be better. I personally don't enjoy Grados so I won't recommend the SR225. You might like them though.

HD600 is what I have and they are great headphones for the long-term, because they continually sound better and better the more equipment you put behind them. Since you already have the 555's and enjoy them, the "Sennheiser sound" will be retained by upgrading to them.

Ok, HD600 are out of the question. Do you think the AD700s or AD900s would be a good upgrade? I can get them for around 115 and 250 respectively.

I want something with more clarity; bass isn't something that has to be prominent but it would be helpful. A good sound stage is good also.

Haha yea, sorry, I was talking about the price. I knew that the HD600 were the best out of the ones i listed long before I even though of posting this. I was just wondering how they "stood up" to it in terms of SQ for their price.

I've got a HD555 and am currently considering the AD700/900 and K701. The AD900 and K701 are equally priced, but the 900 doesn't need an amp, while the K701 is much more amp-dependent. I get the idea that the clarity of the K701 exceeds that of the AD900, however.

clarity and soundstage are two things that i've read many times associated with AD700.. but as mentioned before, the bass is not too prominent.. i don't know how un-prominent, though..

And what made you think that?

More expensive does not necessarily mean better.

I much preferred the AD700's to the HD600's. I haven't heard the others.

AD700's have a massively huge soundstage (bigger than anything I've experienced) but they also managed to be fairly up front and energetic, meaning they're good for rock and other fast paced genres. The bass is quite light, but you can EQ it up if you want.

^ If you could chose again, would you still go with the AD700 over the K701? I've been trying to decide between the two for the last few weeks. Soundstage is a big selling point for me, and I've seen you suggest the AD700 has a bigger soundstage than the K701.

K701's seem to have a more spacious soundstage. Like everything seems more 'out there', but this makes them less energetic and less good for rock. AD700s has a very large soundstage but are also slightly 'up-front'. It's kinda hard to explain.

It's like the K701's soundstage is like this (where the O is the head and the brackets are the soundstage)

( ) O ( )

And the AD700's is like this

( )O( )

The real reason I sold the K701's was that they were too boring to sound good with rock and for this reason, I preferred the ad700.

I used to have both AD700 and HD595.
HD595 have more bass and warmer sound, the AD700 bass is tighter and dry.
I like the unique sound signature of the HD595, which is a bit laid-back but bright. I like the AD700 for their big soundstage and the mids.
Although AD700 is overall a brighter one, but the HD595 treb is even brighter, it very harsh, distant and I don't like that at all!
Yes and I prefer the AD700 over HD595.

Since I last posted in this thread, I got the AD700, and enjoy them immensely. :^) I don't think you'll be disappointed with them coming from the HD555, which are very good phones in their own right. That said, I don't know if it's worth it to have both phones, as they have a rather similar sound.
