I think the AD700 are a great choice for that price, if that's what you are willing to spend.

But the AD700 are not laid back, they are pretty forward sounding.

Grados/Denon are just plain colored to ridiculous levels

I think he meant that the AD700's laid back relative to the grado and denon.

I wouldn't say they are pretty forward sounding, they're more forward than your HD650's, for sure. But for a similar sound signature, I don't think they're as forward as K701's. Outside of Senn's, which are considered the most laid back of the high quality brands, what exactly are they more forward than?

I like wide, as someone said you could park a bus on it. I'd probably prefer a 15 seater van, but perfection is not had at this price

$78.81, down another 8 cents. What time of day was that rockbottom price on Amazon? Also, if you buy from the expo site there is a 5% coupon

I dig my AD700, but lately, the RX700 has surpassed it as my main phone. Both are great. I enjoy the extra bass emphasis and more relaxed tone of the RX700.

I'm with Lucky. I liked the AD700, but after hearing how fun the RX700 sounds (after 100 hours of burn in) I sold the AD700 in a flash.

With that said, I totally agree with fjrabon's reviews of the AD700 and the D1001. Both are nice headphones but they're completely different. If you crave huge sounstage and comfort, the AD700 has nice sparkly highs a good forward presentation, but it sounds very thin in comparison to the D1001 and RX700, and lacks bass in most people's opinion. Plus they're very open so you can hear everything that's coming out of them.

The D1001 is nice too, with much more bass and overall fullness and improves with a recable, but it has a rather compressed sound and the highs can be shrill at times. I like that it is quite compact for a full sized phone. I actually wouldn't mind wearing these out of the house.

But neither of these can compete with the RX700 (in my opinion). The RX700 has depth and complexity and fullness that neither the AD700 or D1001 can match. Sure, its huge, but no bigger than the AD700, but it isolates better than the D1001 and way better than the AD700, which is a big plus for me. Actually, I recently compared the RX700 ($35) and the D2000 ($350) and found the RX700 to come very close (they're very similar in sound signature) to the D2000.

I will always recommend the RX700. There is no better value in this world.

Yup. Consider said booty to be effectively rocked.

Yes the HA-RX700 are indeed great phones. Though not everyone's cup of tea, they are great for a lot. I listen to rock/metal through them and they sound fantastic (Muse, Coheed & Cambria, In Flames, The Human Abstract, etc.) also sounds good with techno/trance.

Only thing I could wish is the build quality a bit better (the build quality is already great being 32$ USD). Just a tad bit more, but that's only because I hate cheap plastic with a passion

700 is better than 900 for music because its more punchy and controlled. 900 is better than 700 for movies because its more full. The 900 has a bit more soundstage but the RX700 isn't necessarily lacking.

I highly recommend the 700 over the 900.

Well for 35 bucks-it doesn't make sense not to get it
