I also HIGHLY recommend Alison Krauss. Go get the AKUS album(s):

"Two Highways" and "So Long So Wrong" and you will be in hog heaven. If you like those check out her other stuff later.

Eric Bibb might be worth a look, particularly his two recordings with opus3. He's normally classed as a blues man, but these two are much more something else. I'm not entirely sure what, but I would stick them in under folk-thing-whatsit. Someone might be able to help me out here..

It's possible that because he recorded these in Sweden with a bunch of strange instruments and their players he cut his cloth accordingly.

Not very easy to get hold of either but worth the effort.

Have you been checking out the Amercian Folk series of programmes on BBC4 lately? There was a good one showing all of the acts that had appeared on Jools Holland's Later.... show.
