I need headphones for studio use at home (as a hobby), so I am looking for something that will yield the best flat response for a budget of 100$. Suggestions?

I believe the HD280 Pro is reported to be very flat (some describe it as 'sterile' and 'lifeless', but Sennheiser claim they are for studio use), but I cant think of too many others in that price range.

For proper studio use - be thinking $500 +

The DT48 MSRP is 449, but the vintagte models can be had used for between 60-150. The DT48 are the most expensive & durable dynamic reference studio headphone that I know off.. & made of all metal & bolts..

I dunno KBI, these days finding a DT48 under $100 is damn near impossible, (maybe i'm just bitter because the two i own cost me well over that). That being said, should the op strike gold and find a pair, then thats about as flat as you would get.

BTW: i hold you and Uncle Erik partly responsible for the inflated pricing of the DT48.Had you just kept these babies a secret, the demand wouldnt be as high as it is now.

Def. buy those k240DF's!...as flat as you're going to find within your budget....if you can drive them. They're 600ohms and will need adequate amplification. I picked up a set for a bit over $50 on ebay...much prefer them to the v6. The k240S doesn't really compare to the 240DF, IMO.

akg m40fs is popular with home musicians
the m50 is gaining popularity around here
a used k240df is the best bet *only* if you have proper amplification, same with a k240m, which is slightly less sterile sounding. dont bother with the k240s
the absolute cheapest option is a yamaha rh5ma

a sony mdrv6 and a senn hd280 are not flat response by a long shot
