I'd be comparing the Alessandro MS1 ($99 shipped) to the Audio Technica A500.

Which sounds better is pretty subjective. What traits are you looking for in the sound?

Alessandro MS-1. cheaper than the 125, but Mr. Grado said it is a 125, with a more neutral sound. So no flabby bass or chirpy highs - and I bet you'll be happy with them - I am! Don't forget, it's the Rock Can. Well, actually the 225 is, but we are talking around 100 bucks here, right?

Then wouldn't it behoove you to listen to them yourself? If it's just sound quality you're after, why not listen to the HD580? Or the DT440? or the CD780? etc.

I second this. I have sr-80's and a cmoy, and unless you have a source with a really good headphone out, that combo sounds very similar to sr-225's directly through a headphone jack.

dont really understand... so did you mean you can spend more than 99 dollars ? or its not cheap ? (by the way, did you mean cheap, not chip?)

now you are saying you listen to jazz as well, apart from heavy techno, clubbing stuffs ? hmmm... usually those 2 categories need different set of cans...
maybe should we recommend all-around, all-purpose headphones ?
