I searched in audiokarma and it seems that the Power supply is incorrect. Can anybody confirm this? Please post the power supply specs that you are using.

The Entech DACs use a 16VAC transformer. The female barrel connector is 5.5mm x 2.5mm.

thank you insidiousness but i will try to find a ps that matches the specs from a local retail. As soon as i get the DAC working i will post some photos.

i cant wait to get my 205.2 dac.

Would it be ok to hook it up to a Go-Vibe 5 or any other portable amp?
I dont own any home amps yet.

btw, where do you guys get those beefy optical interconnects??
I plan to hook the entech to my sound card's optical out but i only have this freebie thin optical interconnect that i got with my minidisc awhile back.

They are not socketed. The 203 sounds better than the 205, but the latter is more useful when multiple inputs are needed. The extra antialiasing filters and features somehow degrade the sound. . .

I have to disagree.

The 203.2 has a softer sound because of the 600 ohm output resistors which are needed due to the use of muting transistors which short the output jacks to ground.

The 205.2 has a class A load on the op-amp and a dual-transistor buffer inside the feedback loop. The output impedance is very low and a relay is used for muting (the amp circuit is disconnected when the output jacks are shorted to ground).

If ~50 ohm resistors are inserted between the op-amp outputs (outside the feedback loops) and the muting relay the stability is improved and almost any op-amp can be used successfully (LM4562, etc.)

obviously barring mods and opamp rolling; that sound's about right, and I may have to experiment with opamps on the 205. Rolling with the 203 proved lackluster yet the bigger brother may be more receptive.. thanks

It seems like you have a grounding problem, keanej6.

The op-amp in the 203 is not socketed, you'll have to desolder the original chip and put in a socket yourself. Be careful of the film caps around that area, they are temperature sensitive fragile little things.

I don't think it will be a problem using the dac with your go-vibe. (Please correct me if I am wrong.) You will need to use a 2x rca to mini cable from the dac's output to your amp's input. I hope this will work. I ordered a 205.2 from Ebay today with plans to use it with my stereo and my Porta Corda II portable amp that only has a mini input.
As for the Toslink cable, check out this link:

"Comfortably numb" posted this link a few days ago. I am going to order this cable. The cable is less than $7 & with standard USPS shipping the total is less than $10. It looks like another great head-fi deal, thanks "Comfortably numb." BTW my wife works in Jersey City!

i just can't get my entech 205.2, working, i bought a PS for 220v (i'm in south america), get the chaintech av-710, and still nothing, i believe that i'm doing everything right but the dac just never turn the DATA LOCKED led on. I'm using Optical Toslink, the last chance is to test an Digital Coaxial connection but i don't have that kind of output.

Anyway i talk to my Technical Service and they said that if i could get some manual or technical reference for the DAC they could try to fix it. Obviusly i have nothing at all so i need your help again

Can anybody send me (cafeengranos@yahoo.com) some Manual or Technical Reference for the Entech Number Cruncher 205.2

thanks in advance.

Did you try wiggling around the power connector? I is very loose on the entechs. Try having music playing, then wriggling it around and plugging/unplugging and keep an eye on the light. Mine is like that, the barrel connector is very loose...
