Guy on A'gon trying to sell a couple of R10's (one bass-light, one bass-heavy) for a total of just under $13K! (And you guys are balking on the custom HP1's that headphile has created, at only a fraction of that price!)

HP1's are not entirely comparable to R10's.

If someone is seriously considering R10's, then the cost associated with it shouldn't be much of an issue.

The Seller is Lobstersan- a Head-Fi Member.

I've found there's a difference between something that is expensive but readily available in comparison to something that just isn’t available at any price.

The R10’s are one such item. The HE90’s are another.

Agreed. Also, 13k for two near-mint R10s doesn't seem too bad considering a single pair of HE90 in similar condition will probably command that much on its own.

not the price but that he has two pairs and just sold two pairs, which means that at once time, just a few months ago, he had 4 R10s in his possession.

if i had the money, i would buy onw. the R10, like the L3000 and PS1, will always be in demand and retain their value, and in all likelihood the cost will go up as time passes.

Wow. It will be interesting to see how prices for audio gear fare in relationship to the economy.

There are probably a higher demand than supply of the R10, as many other out-of-production classics. Even if $6.5k is a lot of money there are people out there willing to pay that much for an R10.
