Can't wait to know more about the HDV 820. Think I read somewhere it's a digital amp. Wow, Class D amplification?

I have listened to this Amp in Munich High End 2017 which just finished today, and I did it right after listening to the new Orpheus, I wouldn't comment Orpheus, but that little amp is among the best things I heard, both the HD800s and HD800S are amazing sound ing with it.. And diff between the regular and S version is that S sounds airier and more spacious, a little more ultra detailed and 800 regular is bassier.

A couple of days ago I spent some time listening to our HDV 820 demo unit, and also the Questyle CMA400i.

The HDV 820 is refined and smooth, a device you can sit back and enjoy. It is also very powerful and can just about drive the Hifiman HE-6, but it pairs wonderfully with the HD800 / HD800s

^^Thanks for the follow-up.

I noticed that you have the HDVD 800 Senn Amp. I do too. I really like it a lot with my Senn HD 800 S and Audeze LCD-X cans, although I bypass the DAC in the HDVD 800 amp and use a Chord 2Qute DAC instead

I would be really interested in the difference between the HDVD 800 amp and the new HDV 820Amp. If it was a substantial upgrade, I would more than likely purchase the new unit.

I'll try and do a comparison for you tomorrow at some point :)

Amp section only, DAC used with be a Hugo

Sounds great. Thanks. The Chord Hugo is a nice amp/DAC, for sure!

There is not a huge difference to be honest, and if you use it as an amp only maybe not worth the upgrade.

The HDV 820 is every so slightly smoother, fuller, and has better separation and soundstage.

The main reason to upgrade is if you are looking to driver harder to drive headphones, want the upgraded DAC section and want the looks to tie in with the rest of your system.

With regard to the upgraded DAC section in the HDV 820, I was a little surprised to see that there is no playback up to 768kHZ and up to DSD512 (octa DSD). The new ESS SABRE32 chip sounds good, though, I'm sure. Also, they have omitted MQA which for some could be a deal-breaker I think. The choice of a 4.4mm Pentaconn socket is interesting.
