A frustrating dilemma--Your thoughts?

*sigh* - my point was more philosophical than technical. The OP is a high school kid who sounds like he doesn't want to listen at all unless he can listen to lossless audio. I think that's a shame. My point was not trying to say that someone should or shouldn't use lossless codecs - my point was that it shouldn't be the deciding point between being happy or miserable with your music.

Don't you *sigh* at me, as if you're too tired to explain this all again. I get your point, JCV, and I've no intention of turning this into a lossy/vs. lossless flame war.

If I could tell my 17 year old self 5 things, one of them would be "rip lossless". I've spent countless hours digging through old CDs, rebuying discs, scavenging online for FLACs, etc. He won't hear the difference, without a doubt, but he can rip lossless AND lossy. Fill your player with good sounds, and preserve your data for years to come.

I just cannot in good faith advocate people invest time into ripping at 320. It's that way for me.

By all means, use the player you have and enjoy your MP3 rips at 256-320 VBR. I most definitely do from my iPod. Just be sure to also store your data in a format that lasts.

Sorry - I was *sighing* because I thought I had not been clear.

And - if it helps any - I do agree with you that storage is cheap, and ripping lossless for archive is the best option!

I think we're in violent agreement...

I do not see the problem with using WMA Lossless.
It may not be the most universal format, but it is lossless and supported by your player. If you in the future end up buying a different player you can always transcode those files to any codec/format if needed.
