Thanks for the tip. Getting these to Finland in about a week. Jumping into the iem game more intensely for the first time. Getting a Sony NW-A306 (Japan version), Campfire Audio Dorado 2020 and the Neon Pro all next week :)

Previously had Etymotic ER-4P’s (around 2002 with an iPod Mini) and then KZ ZST in 2018 or 2019 hooked to a phone.

It’s all been long due!!

Akros’ review of the Aür Aurora is up on YouTube. Surprisingly, his impression of the iem was only luke warm.

I don’t doubt Tony’s integrity and enjoy his reviews (and watch most of them), hes also my go to for iem reviews over any other YouTuber. He’s also been a huge advocate for Aür since the original Neon was released.

Furthermore, Tony being a big fan of the brand and supporter of Aür has undoubtedly helped with the exposure of the brand and brought them sales and attention. So kudos to him.

However, I was a little surprised that all the iem’s in his comparison that are sold by Hifigo (and being cheaper than the Aurora), he felt were superior to the Aurora.

I’m still waiting for mine to be despatched, so I guess I’ll find out myself how it stacks up.

I was also surprised he didn’t compare it to the Alita, as I know he’s a big fan of it. And from what I understand it’s a fairly similar tuning but with less BA’s and tow DDs for bass instead.

So, it would have been interesting to know why he really enjoys the Alita, but felt the Aurora wasn’t particularly great, and overpriced for what it is.

Obviously sound is quite subjective and everyone’s tastes and opinions vary, I just felt it was quite different to the feedback I’d read from people in this thread who’ve purchased the Aurora.

Tony make great reviews, but he like everyone else has his opinions. I watch all his videos and it has helped me many times, still stays as my reference reviewer.

What I have learned over time is that one man's treasure is another man's trash.
Why we often have to test our self to know for sure.

For example tony love the SA6 MK2, and I have heard other owners who hate it and is dissatisfied.
I liked the original SA6 but found it quite good step under the Neon Pro, but never have tried MK2 so I cannot comment.

The truth is there is lots of good IEMs these days, maybe some trial and error is needed to find yours.
You learn on the road what you like and do not, some brands might have magic you like and others not.

Just a comment on the video I thought was not at all deserving, he calls it is not good with busy and complex music.
Where I find one of the biggest strengths in Aurora is how it does complex music, be it fast or a lot going on. Always crystal clean and never congested.

Maybe he is not anymore…

Same…

It's weird, right? 😉

We will have our Auroras maybe next week, so we can get out of doubt soon.

I believe @firesign and @Danx3k are reading too much into the comparison. He also mentions two IEMs which are not sold on Hifigo, which he prefers? Both the Aful and Dunu can also be bought from websites besides Hifigo, mind you. Tony's review does not have to reflect what your impression will be. I for one, also view most of Tony's videos and respect his opinion greatly, but I have also been burned on his praise. In my case it was the 41T, which most people seem to love. All of these things are individually subjective.

Let's not forget that most of us won't have as many beasts (which honestly all the IEMs in this video are) to try as Tony. Naturally, all of us would have preferences if we got to try all the same units, and we wouldn't unanimously agree on everything. You might prefer the Aurora to his top picks, or you may not. Doesn't mean you will hate the Aurora even though you ultimately may have preferred something else if A/B directly. I for one, am pretty sure I would prefer the Aurora to the Performer 8, but that doesn't mean the Aurora would be perfect in my eyes, either. As Leonard said: One man's treasure is another man's trash, and vice versa.

I'm sure you both have done ample amounts of research before purchasing and will be happy with your new AüR :v:

I have not listened to the Aurora yet, so I don’t know if I would like it or not. Maybe I will hate it, who knows…

But we are not the only ones reading much more from the comparison. And I assure you too there is much more there in his words that only preferences and tastes.

This ^.

Reviewers are just like me and you, they don't have some "golden ear". It is perfectly OK for them to not like a set that has come out from your favorite company. That doesn't mean you should stop watching their reviews. I for one, very much appreciate that he felt the need to be honest enough to give a mediocre review of them, ESPECIALLY since he is a big fan of Aur. This just shows that he is NOT a shill. As for me, I would never want him to say just what I want to hear. I would rather him speak his mind. This builds up consistency and you can absolutely rely on his reviews over time.

As an example of what I am trying to say, let's take Crinacle as an example. I really love his reviews! Not in the way you are thinking, because I rarely ever agree with his assessments, and I think he is PURELY subjective, and is rarely objective. The thing that he has that I can count on though is his consistency. I have bought more than one set that was on his "D" list, and they are some of my absolute favorite sets of IEMs (the OG Tinhifi P1 as example). I know that he is looking for a very specific tuning, and tone, and technicalities, etc... and if any set deviates too far from this, he will not like them. And, since I know I don't prefer the sound that he likes, I have figured out what sets have the sound that I might like from this.

Having said all that, there is also NO way that the Aur brand can satisfy every single person. There ARE going to be people that don't like them. This is just the nature of our ears/hearing. He is not the only one who hasn't liked Aur Audio IEMs (though the first for the Aurora that I have seen thus far) as much as other sets. There have been silent people that have sold theirs off (though not very many I am happy to see). As for me, they are one of my favorite brands overall, and if I already owned the NP which is next on my list, I would buy the Aurora despite the slight negative review. This is because I don't follow ANY one reviewer blindly (not that I am stating anyone here does that). I tend to gather all the data from everywhere I can to make my judgement on a blind buy like this.

I have been around for long enough now, that I have also seen comments from other users on what they prefer in their sound with different products, and this also helps to build my database of what I might also like (or not). My advice is to not believe what you hear from any one reviewer 100%; not because they aren't telling the truth, but because they might hear it totally differently than you do (and that can be totally legitimate). Even our own @Leonarfd. He is a wonderful reviewer, but let's face it, our ears are NOT the same, and what he hears as "eargasmic" might sound like cats effing (thanks for the reference @FranQL) to others. Of course, of the sets that he has listened to and I have, I have not had this happen though.

I was also a bit taken aback when he said Aurora "falls apart" with busy music. Wat. There are just so many variables in this hobby, not just at a hardware level but also with less quantifiable factors like mood, ear anatomy, and general psychoacoustics, not to mention combos of these various factors which might be hard for others to replicate. Oh well. Different strokes, different folks and all that. We will probably never find someone we agree with 100% across the board, like some kind of musical doppelganger. Akros didn't steer me wrong when it came to Alita or SR8, so I will still give his thoughts a lot of value, just like Crinacle, despite not agreeing with all his takes either.

I'm still listening to Aurora every day, and LOVING it every day. I easily prefer it over the IE600, which is one of the standard-bearers in its price range(but it is pretty great too). It doesn't sound at all like Aur held back with Aurora to make the performance match its price range and I appreciate that. On the bright side, now maybe people will have lower expectations, which will set them up to be pleasantly surprised. Because our expectations also play a role in how we perceive things at times.

From @Leonarfd writing, I was under the impression that Aurora has high technical performance. I can’t imagine something like the perception of resolution varies much between listeners, unless they use different conceptualisation of what resolution is. Wonder what the deal is.

You gotta remember that everyone's ear anatomy are different which can definitely affect techs like stage and resolution

Over in watercooler thread a few Aur owners have list Aurora as their top iem so take this akros review with bag of salt. I cannot stand he brushed the EOH cable aside as I personally have the cable and it enhances lower range texture greatly on Aurora and massively expands the stage. Seems he has an agenda to promote other products hence not in good terms with Aur anymore.

In my opinion “greatly” and “massively” are not words that are likely to be a genuinely accurate indication of the difference a cable is going to make.

The longer I spend in this hobby the more I'm overwhelmed with the variables at play when assessing sound signatures accurately and perception of them between listeners. It almost makes me wonder why I write reviews if things can be perceived so differently from person-to-person (ear & head anatomy, limits of hearing, personal preference, music choice, historical experience and listening context etc), even setting aside differences in the audio chain, which is what we conventionally attribute to changes in sound. It's even worse for earbuds that are even more sensitive to the angle of fit to the concha and behave sometimes unpredictably to use of different foams.

It's one of the deepest hobbies I've ever experienced and it sometimes plays into my obsessive tendencies a bit too much, but it's rewarding to find your way through it all.
