Hello All

I will be a proud new owner of a Calyx M very soon. I just won it on eBay with the X bat include! I’m very excited. I’ll be using only iem’s, I have Empire ears Odin, Qdc Anole VX and have pre ordered the new UM Mest MKII.
I’m wondering if I should pull the trigger on the the bx-1 amp or the Dentonray honey? I listen to primarily jazz trio, quartet and blues music, some rock, pop, r&b, soul and singer songwriter but mainly jazz trio. A lot of live dsd albums.
So I’m curious best sound quality and widest soundstage with out losing details. I’m currently using as my desktop set up a Denafrips ares 2 R2R DAC with Denafrips iris ddc with a schiit lyr 3 hybrid amp and I LOVE IT!!
I’m selling my AK Kann cube as I do not like the SQ at all.
Should I do the romi mod or fidelizer mod? Or leave the calyx m stock?
and should I amp it? Would prefer portable amp.
thank you so much for the help and time,
Jeremy

Was wondering what charger you all are using on the Calyx M? I just have an old one from a Pono but there must be faster ones that are ok. Any suggestions?

Time has come...Selling my Calyx M (double battery installed in the stock body - works around 8 hours) in mint condition for a very tasty price. Truly unique unit. The thread in classifieds is created - come and check if interested:wink:.
Selling off my collections.

Sounds fantastically with any earbuds I have tried them with. SQ is just magical, amazingly musical, but as well highly detailed.

Hi guys, it is been a while since last time I had a listening session with the Calyx M and today I decided to give it a spin and I am glad I did because I was reminded what a beautiful sounding device Calyx M is. I know the dap has its quirks but for some genre of music there is no other dap that sounds as good as Calyx M. The sound is not the most resolving and it doesn't have the biggest soundstage but it is the most emotional dap, it is like a good tube amp. I tried to add the BX2 + Amp from Romi Audio to see if I can improve the sound and it sounds nice but it loses the unique flavor of Calyx M. I believe the sound of Calyx M is great as it is. I am still happy to have the chance to listen to music on this wonderful dap

I feel the same way you do. It's just that it takes FOREVER to spin up and the OS is laggy as h_ll. Going from one album to another can be very frustrating. If this thing was as fast as the iBasso DX300 or as zippy as the Dethonray DTR1 and didn't drain battery all the time..... But man does it sound glorious. Too bad it will never be updated :frowning2:

Well. It's probably not the best in terms of detail retrieval, nor the most neutral DAP out there, but people like it because it's different. There are plenty of cheap DAPs on the market that can produce more "accurate" yet somewhat "digital" sound, and as for some people who have multiple DAPs/sources, we don't need another of those. We want something different, and this is what the Calyx M does, and it does that amazingly well.

That being said, if you just want to own one DAP that matches well with all sorts of IEMs or headphones, then I agree that Calyx M is not the best choice. In the end, it is all comes down to pairing and preferences.

I just wish it...

1. Had online capabilities so I can get to my streaming services

2. Played SACD ISO files (no one really knew what those were in 2014..but pretty much my whole collection format now.)

3. Base battery lasted longer than 5 minutes :)
