k1000 gurus,

someone is offering me a k1000 with serial 1,XXX... this puts it at 10+ years old...

is 700 USD worth it for this? he says its in excellent condition,

how well does the k1000 age? will 10 years affect it much?

iirc there are different 'versions,' or, 'revisions' of the K1000 as the years of its production went on.

Mine is nearly 3 years old and it's serial number is over 10K, FWIW.

10 years?! That is quite incredible. Wouldn't you think $700 is a little too much to ask for a pair of headphones of that age even though they are the legendary K1000s?

Eh. Well, it IS a K-1000, but I think $700 for one that old is a bit much. Then again, it's a starting point. He may very well take less.

I just pulled the completed listings on eBay. A pair from 2003 went for $685 and one with a 10,XXX serial number went for $877.

Well, it's a start. You might want to see how many prices you can pull from the For Sale forum here. If a 2003 model sold for less than $700, I think that'd help your argument.

I'd probably offer around $550 and buy in the $600 neighborhood. And yes, I would buy an older one. The K-1000 is my favorite pair of headphones. I'm sure an earlier one would sound fantastic, too.

A "<10 hours" pair sold on Audiogon recently for $650, and another great shape one for $625. You bet your boots you should haggle.
