HI: I was going to use my 580s with my new cmoy amp but I find that the koss-35s sound great on this amp and are very portable and it seens that the more power that you give the 35s the better they sound.

I was listening to my KSC-35s last night through my cmoy. I started off casually A/B testing my SR80s against the 35s. After about 3 songs, I just left the 35s on. They just sounded less flat and tinny than the Grados. Don't get me wrong, I love the Grados, and some detail was missing in the 35s, but they're just more enjoyable to listen to.

You don't have to convince me; I use my KSC-35 with my Max sometimes

lol, I do find it funny sometimes. These phones are just that good! I see someone getting the ksc35s recabled so they can be used with a blockhead.

I some of this thread is tongue-in-cheek, but are you all essentially serious that the sound of the 35s is comparable to the 580s? I have the 35s, & was thinking of upgrading to 600s--would that be a waste of $? I've never heard the 580 or 600.

HI: We are not saying that the koss-35 are better or equal to the 580s or 600. We are saying that for the money and smallness of size and portable use that the 35s are great cans. The 35s need very little power to sound good and with a portable amp sound great and the more the power the better they sound, The 580s and 600 start right off needing lots of power but sound amazing with it. Now the 35s cost very little money were as the 580s and 600 cost much more money and need a good amp. but the 35s are just fun cans and easey to ware and sound much bigger than they really are. So if you are going to get the 580s or 600 remember that they need a good amp and a good source which amounts to lots of money but the 35s you can use almost any source and dont really need an amp. Some of us even though we might have a good pair of cans and a good source plus a good amp still really like the koss-35 for many reasons that might not make much sense to a person who dont have them but once you do have them they will always be part of your stuff and used offten.

I'll second that... the 35s are very good for such small headphones, and the friends I have told to buy a pair are all very impressed with how they sound coming out of portables (and these guys are far from being audiophiles).

Gus: We are simply saying that for the money, they can't be beat. The 35s cost $25. The hd580s cost about 8 times that. Even if you use the european price, say, about $125, the 580s are 5 times as expensive. Are the 580s 5 times as good? Nope. Its a simple matter of price/performance. Put it this way: is the orpheus 480 times as good as the ksc35? Nope.

I don't have the HD580 but I do have the HD600 and I've chose to listen to my ksc35's over the HD600 sometimes just for a change. I was very surprised at how good the ksc35 sounded.

usualy i use my 280s over my koss, the 280s have better bass and isolate. but still, sometimes i do use the koss. the koss are amazing for the price. I think that i will never buy an open can, because I think that I already have the best one! its portable, cheap, sounds great, needs no amp... The only other headphones i ever plan to buy are the ER4P or ER6, and more pairs of koss. i heard that the 50s are less boomy then the 35s and are cheaper so i got the 50s, plus the 50s look cool and are cheaper ($16 after tax at Circuit City).

RIGHT. I have the HD580 and the PortaPRO and also chose sometimes to listen to the Portas out of the amplifier, of course... There is no question that the 580 are "better" and more detailed but still the PortaPRO are FUN, just for a change, like you said...
