Friend is looking at buying a headset for gaming. He has been through enough $20 altec lansing headsets i can't count how many in the last few years.

He was looking at one he told me on Newegg, all i know is it was a $30 Logitech set with good reviews.

What would be the best overall headset for this budget that would be quality and long lasting?

The lower side of $50 is probably what he will buy, over $50 would be too much i am thinking.

For my friend, I had him get the JVC HA-RX700's and that zalmon mic.

...However, the HA-RX700's have been out of stock for some time.
I would still recommend getting that microphone and figuring out what the best readily available headphones that can be bought for under $40 are.

maybe the PX100's?

Another vote for Headphone + Desktop Mic. There're more choices and better SQ if you don't need to have a headset.

And another vote for the HA RX700 and/or RX900. Having both, I find the RX900 preferable for gaming as it responds better to the various artificial surround sound modes.
