My buddy's birthday is coming up the 9th, and id like to get him a decent pair of over ear isolating headphones.  My budget is $50-$60 SHARP.  I'll take used, new whatever.

Honestly I don't even know where to start in this low price range.  Modest bass response would be nice as well.

If any of you are willing let some used cans go for $50-$60let me know.

HTF600 - Massive bass, smooth to listen to, not too bright, great sound stage, sturdy, comfortable, excellent for all genres. Total gem. Also get these velour pads for alternative comfort.
SR850 or MH310 - Nice overall headphone, a touch on the bright side, good extension, nice sound stages, decently comfortable, nice look, mostly for home use. Can be upgraded with AKG 240 series velour pads for more comfort.

Very best,

but... The HTF600 and those Samson's dont isolate as they are semi-open.

What about
panasonic RP-HTX7
creative aurvana live
superlux HD681 (i think thats the closed model)

regards

HTF600 looks perfect for what I wanted to get. Those other pansonics look dead drop ugly!

i was just saying because of isolation and good bass with some clarity. Sorry if you dont like them.

If your friend needs isolation the HTF600 is NOT for him, they are semi-open and leak.

I would recommend the JVC HA-RX700 but they look kind of over-the-top.
They don't isolate super well, but they are plenty fine to drown out a computer fan (high end gaming card).

Those JVC also do look quite nice. Thanks for all the input.

The Creative Aurvana Live! at about $60 from Amazon is a great choice. Isolation isn't the best as they have a light clamp, but will do fine at blocking out noise except for commuting in busy streets. I use them in the office and they drown out the chatter of co-workers at moderate volumes from my DAP.

K518 are still my day-to-day cans, but OP asked for circumaural, K518 are great supra-aural's tho.
