And this also marks 15 years of amassing piles of plastic no one uses after first use.

And 15 years of the audio industry not learning anything. I say 15 because maybe in the first 15 HDDs were not that big on size.

Not me!  Still use a Sony DVP-S9000ES from ten years ago.

Cool!  I was seven.  First CD I bought or was given was Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magic when it was new in '91.

Without CDs (and the Internet), I might still be listening to radios and also using blank tapes to record songs playing out of the radio.

Oh my goodness, I'm still buying and collecting CDs, almost all are the early ones, WG and Japanese target and MFSL. I still have vinyls, mostly MFSL and Nautilus though I don't have a vinyl spinner anymore. My notable vinyl MFSLs are UHQR Cat Stevens, Led Zep II, Beatles White Album, a sealed John Klemmer Touch, and a DSOTM from the UK.

Emphasis on the Internet.
The best thing to happen to humanity in recent memory.

Just got myself a Sony BDP-S485 player. After discounted price is around $200. No idea what to expect from the sound quality, except it has SACD playback feature.
Time to go all CDs!
