Good luck Lou. As 909 and others have said, a positive attitude makes a world of difference, you will beat this. You will have the surgery and you will recover, you will look back on this in five years and give someone else the benefit of your experience that is just the way it is. I will think and pray for your comfort, because as for the rest I know you will prevail.

Hey Lou, if you read this; it's after the fifth and we're all concerned here. How did your visit with the lung Specialist go?
Rich.

So I mentioned this to my Wife, along with my concern about not hearing anything from Lou since the 5th, and she commented that perhaps Lou is just waiting for some test results and not to get too depressed too soon.

So we're just going on that assumption until we hear something further.

Anyway; take care Lou if you happen to read this, and know that we are all behind you.
Rich.

HI ALL:
I went to the pulmonary doc last week and he gave the OK for the operation.
Now I have to get a dye test to see if there are any blockages to my heart and a stress test. I see my heart doc AUG 17th and hope to get those test out of the way and plan the heart op. THANK YOU ALL for your concern.

Great Lou! That is good news! Knowing that there is no problem with the lungs is a major hurdle out of the way, and things can't be too terribly serious for the short term or they wouldn't have scheduled you for the next set of tests over a month away!

There's still lots of stuff to go through in the next few months of course, but at least you can relax and let the gains of calmer relaxation and even quiting smoking work their magic for a few more weeks! It sure can't hurt!

Anyway; Great News and very Glad to hear it!
Rich.

Is the short lifespan from the leaky valve or your heart being oversized?

people really seem to misunderstand this one...

In this case, the heart becomes oversized in an attempt to compensate for a problem. For some reason, such as a leaky valve, the heart must work harder and be stronger than normal to pump the same amount of blood. It accomplishes this by getting larger.

An enlarged heart in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing - runners usually have larger-than-normal hearts.
Here, it sounds like the enlarged heart is really just a symptom of another problem (the leaky valve).

Just trying to clarify what is going on for others reading this thread, I don't mean to be insensitive to your situation.
I'll keep you in my prayers.
