Hi, I am having problems importing a 24/96 chesky cd into itunes at 24/96.
I have downloaded MAX ( I have a macbook pro) and tried all the options I can think of. I can get a 24 bit 44 khz version, but nothing I try will get me a 96khz version. And help would be greatly appreciated. My dac is capable, and I know about the midid settings and playback, but I can't get the 96khz sample rate into itunes in the first place.

Well, audio CD's can't hold anything but 16-bit/44.1KHz audio anyway (afaik).
So perhaps no wonder you can't get it going...

If nothing else works, why not try just using the Finder to pull the audio off of the disc? Not an elegant or ideal solution, but it may work.

Thanks krmathis, you sir are correct. Downloaded from hdtracks and had no problems converting. Thank you both for the reply. The 24/96 high resultion tag on the cd threw me.

Are you sure it's not a SACD dual disc? If it is it may have a 24/96 layer that you can't read on your Mac. iTunes can handle 24/96. Last week, I ripped a DVD-A disc in Windows. I had to rip it to wav, import it into iTunes, convert it, and tag it. PITA if you have a lot of discs. Fortunately, I only have the one.

You're probably looking at a SACD layer on a hybrid disc. SACD is 24/96k, however, it uses an entirely different laser pickup that's not available outside of a SACD player. Your computer will read the separate Red Book layer on the disk, which is why you're getting the 16/44.1k rip.

Only the Sony XA9000ES (and maybe another or two) will output a digital stream from SACD to an outboard DAC. Trouble is, that stream is encrypted and SACD's encryption hasn't been broken yet. I think it might be the only one that hasn't.

Anyhow, there's currently no way to get 24/96k off a SACD and into iTunes.

sorry to hijack this thread but is there any dvd/bd pc drive that can read sacd or dvd-a? and if there was, would it be possible to rip the 24/96 content?

SACD is actually something like 1/2822k, so it might be one of those CD/DVD-A "dual disc" things, which can apparently be 24/96 on the DVD layer.

Yeah dual disc would be my guess as well. But I dont recall seeing any Chesky Dual-discs.

My other guess is that the cover says "24/96 Mastering" which is something a lot of these "audiophile" labels like to splash on the cd cover. 20 bit mastering, 24 bit mastering, etc etc. The cd is still 16/44.1
