^ I posted the WAV instructions because when I gave Max a go it output 16-bit/96KHz files. After posting the bug in the Max forum I gave it another try, and then it worked perfectly. Go figure!

So feel free to use the Max way first.

I'd use dBPowerAmp, foobar, or whatever your favorite converter is to convert to aiff, import into iTunes, convert to ALAC, and delete the aiff files. The Nero codec that dbPowerAmp uses doesn't support 96/24. I just found that out this week when I tried to convert some wav files I ripped from a DVD-A

Just curious, why do you all want 24bit files when none of you have a DAC capable of playing back 24bit resolution?

Just seems strange to me.

I though I used Max, but gave it a try and it turned out wrong.
Input 24/96 FLAC file and it output 16/96 Apple Lossless files.

This works fine though (resulting in 24/96 Apple Lossless files:
1. Decode the FLAC files using the flac command line binary.
2. Add the WAV files to iTunes, and encode to Apple Lossless.

1. I did use Max to convert to AIF (seems now no ALAC in Max) and add files into iTunes
2. Converted AIF to Apple Lossless in iTunes: they are still in 24/96, only bitrate has been divided by +/- 2 and file size in now almost identical as the Flac :)

Thanks for your ideas :)

Now I'm wondering if I will be able to do the same with DTS HD (2 channels of course) and how to downgrade DTS 6ch to something usable in iTunes.
