[2021 Update] Venture Electronics (VE) Monk V2, Monk Plus & Monk Go: a $5 earbud that taking the world by storm!!!
Jan 19, 2017 at 3:12 PM Post #6,721 of 7,442
Im reading some of the older posts - some people are saying the Monk Original sounds better than the Monk Plus?

Is this true?

If so - does that mean their latest version in Purple and Coffee will be even worse?

I don't believe it's a dip in quality but depends on preferred sound signature. I only briefly tried the Monk Original however, will dig it out for a proper test at some point. Love the Monk plus. Haven't tried coffee (cappuccino on the way) but purple sounds identical to the standard clear smoke colour to my ears, don't believe anyone has commented on a difference in sound

i have the N5 player also and prefer the SE output to balanced. Espresso SE is on the way :relieved:

I don't understand what you guys are talking about when you can get an "Espresso SE" and a "Balanced Version". Yes, they have an Espresso Special Edition version, just like the Candy Special Edition, but where can this "Espresso Balanced Version" be found? Thanks.

OH wow I did not notice the Espresso has a the braided cable and better connectors just like the Candy. so it would make sense if it has the improvements to share with the Candy. But, at $20, i think i can live with the dozens of monks I already have stockpiled.

Probably will get one coffee with 1 button mic for Android though.

Could someone help quickly with this: I have two 2.5mm TRRS VE buds (one monk and one asura 2.0) and I want to use them with a Hifiman HM-700. What adapter do i need? Either from VE or from someone on ebay/elsewhere in the usa, not sure but it seems like i need a 3.5mm trrs?

It's also on veclan.com - look for Espresso TRRS Edition

the HM-700 uses 3.5mm - that can accept both TRS and TRRS balanced (to my knowledge).

you'll need a 2.5mm balanced (female) to 3.5mm SE (male) converter - http://www.norneaudio.com/litzheim/Norne-Hyper-Short-Adapter-AK240-Astell-and-Kern-2-5-mm-4-pole-trrs-3-5-mm-1-8-rhodium

VE has a 2.5mm TRRS to 3.5mm BL adapter which will cover your needs.  It's a little odd that it's an angled jack where the 3.5mm BL to 2.5mm TRRS is straight.

It could theoretically work. I think that adapter might have been made for the 2.5mm headsets so they could use them with modern phones, however.
