Not to steal anyone's thunder (specifically tjohnusa's, as I saw his post in the other thread) but I thought I'd head this up this year for Head-Fi. Since this thread should be started asap (i.e., it should've actually been started a couple of weeks ago to maximize participation), I thought I'd just start the thread now.

For the newbies, this has been an annual tradition originally started by Zanth the moderator some years ago. And to keep in tradition, there's only one rule. In the immortal words of Zanth:
If you agree to sign up, you are agreeing to SEND YOUR EXCHANGE PARTNER A GIFT BY CHRISTMAS!
To sign up, just leave a post in this thread saying that you're in, plus shipping preference if applicable.
Here's the fine print:
Sign-up cut-off is 12/5 (December 5th), midnight MDT. This cut-off date is to allow enough time for communication via PM between participants, then for shipping by USPS to both USA & international destinations, if applicable (see Shipping Deadlines here: https://www.usps.com/holiday/welcome.htm).
Update: sign-ups no longer being accepted!
I'll follow Zanth's rule on shipping: "I'll try to pair folks up on the same continent or better yet country if specified. Otherwise, I'm going to assume folks won't care who their partner is or where they are from."
What's considered a gift? In past years, this has usually been music - on CD or LP. Or it can be anything else you & your exchange partner would rather do (which can be discussed over PM), as long as it's "software" and not hardware like headphones or other gear.
Please keep in mind that "gift" should mean something specifically for your exchange partner, and not an item you no longer want and just want to get rid of. I know that most of us Head-Fiers are complete strangers to each other, but the old saying "it's the thought that counts" applies here too. I think most people would appreciate a little thought into the gift that they receive.
Please don't be a cheapskate. By agreeing to participate, you agree to BUY at least one NEW CD or LP for your exchange partner. No pirated material or used items! Rare, out-of-print, or collectible items are ok though. If you can't see yourself spending up to $30 on a music gift for another Head-Fier, please don't sign up.
Finally, a reminder of why we do the Holiday Gift Exchange: As the saying goes, 'tis better to give than receive.

Web sites like Amazon.com (or .ca, .co.uk, etc) should make this process easy for most people - just order the item on Amazon and have them ship directly to your partner. No need to ship yourself unless some other item is being exchanged, or you have to ship yourself for some other reason.
If there are any further questions about details, those are the kinds of details you should work out with your exchange partner over PM, when those are assigned later right after the cut-off. For example, questions like "Do I gift music that I like or the other person likes? And which format should I get it in?" should be asked directly to your partner by PM. I recommend trying to get something you think your partner will like.
For international shipping from the USA for items like CDs, I suggest using USPS First Class International (5-15 days without tracking), which allows items up to 4 lbs. Items over 4 lbs require at least Priority Mail International (5-10 days without tracking). If speed and tracking are essential, Express Mail International (3-5 days) is the way to go.
Final side-note: I'm not participating in this myself for personal reasons, I'm just here to organize it for everyone else.

Other Web sites that sell music: elusivedisc.com (audiophile), musicdirect.com (audiophile), ttvjaudio.com (vinyl), spun.com (CDs, DVDs, & video games).

Hi Guys,
I was only thinking about this the other day, so I am definitely in again.
Can we get this thread put on to the Head-fi home page for maximum exposure?
Last year was my first year and I found it a great way to get introduced to a new mystery artist, that I would never have thought of looking into.
So I would like to be paired with someone who will surprise me (always make the best Xmas presents) and is happy for me to send them a surprise album (or 2)
I would prefer the UK, but will ship anywhere if need be.
Now....to narrow down my list of albums....mmmm....

I am quite suprised at the slow activity in this thread, in the past it took off like a rocket!

I think it needs to be more prominent. Last year was my first year as i had previously been unaware, and then only stumbled across it by accident.

Yes it needs to be promoted on the site front page
