At the risk of sounding crass, listening to that album is like being smothered to death with a pillow by an old person.

Wow. This has never happened to me before!

Well in any case, I couldn't bring myself to say what was on your mind!

Here is my list:

Album of the Year: Thrice - Beggars

Other favorites:
Brand New - Daisy
Chevelle - Sci-Fi Crimes
Dan Auerbach - Keep It Hid
ISIS - Wavering Radiant
Mastodon: Crack the Skye
Oceansize - Home & Minor EP
Russian Circles - Geneva
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love

Disappointments:
mewithoutYou - it's all crazy! it's all false! it's all a dream! it's Alright
Mute Math - Armistice
Porcupine Tree - The Incident

I like a lot of stuff on that list, I'll have to check out the stuff I haven't heard.

In my opinion 2009 has been a letdown in music. Of course that may have to do with the fact that my musical tastes have shifted so I have yet to find very many artists that released anything good this year. Maybe next year I'll have better luck.

This “colour” or “shade” of varying tone, with quick changes of tempo and rhythm creates an interesting but well integrated album with plenty of passion. The lyrics are thought provoking, deep and relevant to the music and refreshingly, lacking any cheesiness.

"As the winter winds litter London with lonely hearts
The warmth in your eyes swept me into your arms
Was it love or fear of the cold that led us through the night
For every kiss your beauty trumped my doubt"

Album of the year condender.

Fantastic album, thanks for the post.

You're not alone. Well for me, maybe not letdown, more like played out. The whole critical darling, popular music scene felt expired. It's time for a new zeitgeist. Sure I have heard many capable albums, not nearly enough wow albums.

My wrap on the year is something like this:

5. Shackelton - Three Ep's
4. Reshape - The Dance Paradox
3. The Flaming Lips - Embryonic
2. Kreng - L'Autopsie Phénoménale De Dieu

1. **** Buttons - Tarot Sport: A clear no. 1 for me. I loved every song with the steady, rhythmic, tribal undercurrent underneath the escalating washes of noise.

Jason Mraz's Beautiful Mess - Live On Earth
Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon
The Editors - In This Light and On This Evening
Taio Cruz - Rokstarr
The Veronicas - Hook me Up

A couple albums I liked from this year:

If These Trees Could Talk - Above the Earth, Below the Sky (post-rock, on the heavy side)
Kalisia - Cybion (great prog death concept album)

Dream Theater was not terrible either, but I find myself going for their earlier albums when I feel like listening to them. Last track is great though.

gonna have to throw in Swon by the Silversun Pickups, just got it recently, and i cant seem to get enough of it. I liked Carnavas quite a bit, but i feel that they took it to a whole new level with swoon, amazing album, with "Sort Of" being my favorite song.
