2007 NBA Playoffs Thread

Baron has clearly been the man and Jackson has been the next visible leader for the Warriors. But I don't think the Warriors get to 3-1 up on the Mavs w/o Matt Barnes. When Nelson sat Monta in game one, Barnes was ready and he's been nails ever since. Talk about your all-around team players . . .

I know it seems like I'm the ultimate bandwagon hopper, but I just got added to the forum today. I even predate the last W's playoffs and the Run TMC years. To give you an idea of how long I've been a W's fan, I drew a poster-sized picture of Clifford Ray when I was a kid and had it autographed. A couple years later, he greased up his arm to reach into a dolphin's mouth at Marine World to remove someone's keys. They called him in because he was the only local person they could think of with long enough arms. If you remember that, you are old.

Go Warriors.

damn it. the warriors started to run the clock at the end, and it ruined them. their game is not running the half court offense at the end of the shot clock, and it showed. what a crap way to lose.

GS depends on the 3 ball WAAAY too much...

That wasn't the problem, because most of their 3's are open shots created by driving and dishing out. Once Baron hit the leaning 3 to get to 112-103, the Warriors went into a shell trying to kill the clock. Baron didn't take another shot the rest of the game, and the team just started jacking wild 3's because of no time on the shot clock to get to the basket. I blame that one on Nelson for not calling timeout earlier and telling his team to keep playing their game. If GS continued to attack or even just keep the ball in Baron's hands, they win. That is bad coaching.

I thought they needed to slow the pace down when there was about 2 mins left in the game and quit taking wild 3's when they didnt need them to win

Yep....agree. Bad clock management and too many wild 3s. I really wish the GS would win but Dirk did finally come to play. His best play is the defensive stop on the other end.

Too much standing around at the end - running the shot clock to 6 and going 1-on-1. That's alright, this team grows up every game. Now it's back to Oakland.

Yeah those last two 1 on 1 isolation plays were terrible. No cutters...everything just watching. I think momentum is still with GW...they gotta take it at the ROARacle!

wow I've been so disappointed in my life at a basketball game. I am still outraged and baffled that jason terry got T'd up for throwing BD's face (instead of ejected/suspension) to the ground while Stephen Jackson gets ejected for clapping??? What on earth is going on with these referees...

I really dont understand this mentality against the Spurs. The Spurs have something called GOOD DEFENSE. Something you cant say for teams like Phoenix who just want to outscore you. Sorry, but that kind of game doesnt win championships. Sorry if the spurs arent exciting enough for you. And the fact is, Ducan is not the only player to score big shots. Just look at tonights game against Denver. Horry made a huge 3 ball at the end of the game that was the dagger in Denver's side. Not to mention 18 points from Ginobili. Duncan actually had a really slow first half considering he was getting raped underneath the basket and not getting any of the calls...

Anyway... go Spurs! Up 3-1 against Denver and coming back home!

Once again, people think teams don't play good defense based on the amount of points scored by the opposition. The reason why you think the spurs are so great at defense is because they limit the amount of possessions in a game. If you look at numbers more closely you get into something called defensive efficiency. The Suns, Spurs, and Mavs aren't all that far apart when it comes to efficiency. A team is going to score more points with more possessions, but your team gets more chances too. Look at shooting % and margin of victory for a better picture of good defense. (You can get even more in depth if you'd like, there's tons of better stats than OPPG)
Example: The Suns have 2 players in the top 10 in defensive rebounding, the Spurs have 1 in the top 35, and Mavs have 0 in the top 10 and 2 in the top 25. Please stop looking at final scores to determine "good defense." That said, they all have different styles, and they're all proven to work.

The Wars gave that game away. You have to keep doing what got you that lead. There's nothing wrong with a 3 if you're wide open (a pro is going to knock down a wide open 3 at least 50% of the time), problem is they were standing around and heaving 3's as the shot clock expired. Where did the drive and dish go? I hate it when uptempo teams try to coast, you gotta be you!

yep. right on the button floyd. instead of holding the ball until 5 on the shot clock, maybe hold until 10 then drive to the basket. i really hope the fans at the oracle will help the warriors recover, because that series was all but over. tough to come back from that.

WOW.. Clifford Ray!! That was a long time ago

I have Lorenzo Romar and Purvis Shorts autograph. I'm not into sports memorabelia but I was ~9 or 10 when they signed my banner. Back in the early 80s they used to hang around the arena and sign autographs for the little kids after the games.

I missed the mavs win tonight... worked my butt off till ~10:00.

I guess if you go by attendance totals, yes. Since baseball and football arenas hold a lot more people than a basketball arena. 20k at a baseball game is mediocre, 20k at a basketball game is a sellout. Thing is you can walk up to a Diamondbacks game and get tickets no prob. The Suns are sold out weeks in advance. The Cardinals you can get tickets to pretty easily as well, not as easily now that they have that new fancy stadium. It'll be much easier in a few years when the newness factor wears off and the Cards continue to stink. Basketball is quite popular in Phoenix, they're our original and most consistent franchise. This isn't true in other cities though, because most have good football teams. Football is definitely #1 overall in the US.
