I've consulted Head-Fi before every audio purchase and I've always come out happy in the end, so I see no reason to stop now.

I currently have a pair of XB700s that I love, but the pads are getting really worn out and so I think it's time for an upgrade. My source is a PC, onboard audio. I mostly listen to hip-hop, dubstep, and metalcore. I watch a lot of movies and TV. I also game a bit, but that's the lowest on the totem pole out of the three. I'm a basshead first and foremost. Sub-bass is important to me. I love really deep bass that just washes over you like the tide. I like my bass quantity and impact too.

I've got $200-300 to spend and I'm open to just about anything that fits the above description. My initial look turned up a pair of ATH-PRO700MK2s and ATH-WS99s. I couldn't find much info on how they compare to the XB700s though.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Just let you know, you can buy replacement pads for XB700. Search ebay and you will find them. XB700 is quite good, and I really do not think those two you mentioned above would be an upgrade.

Dude, DJ headphones. I can recommend a few since I mix. Those things are made for powerful and clean mid/sub bass.

ATH Pro 700, Xone X53, DNHP1000, HDJ 2000, TMA-1, HD-25-1 II, NS 900, RPDH1250 or RPDH1200.

They all have different pros and cons. Choose the one you like and I'll tell you more about it.

I consider all those cans upgrades in clarity, durability, portability, and ear fatigue. If you want even more bass, I can only think of the Beats Mixr. They shook my skull & sounded unnatural.

Here are a few so you can try them at a store.

1) ATH Pro700MKII. 53mm drivers. Punchy bass, but can still hear the mids & highs. High clamping force. Medium ear fatigue.

2) TMA-1 DJ. 40mm drivers. Focus on mids and lows, recessed highs. Dark sound is made for electronic music. On ear and light weight. Medium clamp force. Low ear fatigue.

3) N900. 40mm driver. Responsive bass and can still hear highs & mids. Lightweight and metal band. On ear & medium clamp force.

The V-Moda M-100s are widely praised on these forums as the best basshead can for $300.  I would also suggest the Denon D600 as you can usually find it on Amazon for $250.

You cannot go lower and harder than the sz2000
End of story.
Some very very reputable testers on here can vouch to that. Change the cups. Feed them an amp and the 55mm nano tube coated driver will blow your brains out and shake your fillings loose.

These are the top of Mt Bass.  If that part I bolded in your quote is really what you want...then these are what your looking for. Nothing else comes close.
