You might also look into an NAD HP50 and see what you think. Not sure about current Canadian pricing, but it should be close to budget.

How do those compare to the akg 55x series in terms of bass, midrange, and soundstage?

I'm going to get one of the two but don't know which one to get. Right now I have the 58x jubilee and want a closed back that is similar or better.

the creative aurvana live are at $70 USD but they are cheaply built then you have the Sennheiser HD569 at $150 USD
