My vote also goes for grado's. You better get them, im also a metal lover and they have a good and detailed sound..perfect for my tastes.

I also tested the JVC HA-NC100's and they are not bad...the problem is the lack of bass.

I listen to metal like Pantera, Slayer, Metallica, In Flames, All That Remains, Slipknot etc and Grado's are great

Only thing I would like more of is bass and soundstage. I guess that is kind of approaching the Denon range though.

I think the Grados are too bright for metal. Sure, guitars usually sound great on them, but it's not fun if it hurts your ears. I didn't find my SR60s to be comfortable, and they leaked sound like crazy. On top of that, a lot of more recent metal is very warm sounding, and the Grados just lack the bass to reproduce that, IMO.

For example, I found the JVC HA-RX700 to be much, much closer to my higher end stereo setup in sound than my Grados. Sure, they have their faults, but at $35, they made the SR60s look silly. Again, this is just my opinion.

I recently bought a pair of ATH-M50s, and I think they're great for metal.

I find metal and ambient to be hardest music to be matched by headphones...

"I think the Grados are too bright for metal. Sure, guitars usually sound great on them, but it's not fun if it hurts your ears." Lol you listen to metal, yet are complaining that Grado's hurt your ears? That's like being a serial killer and not liking violence

Hmmm... if SR-60's/80's are too bright, then you can always go the Alessandro MS-1(i) route. They are a bit smoother/tamer, as best I recall.

Well since you mention leakage may be a concern, I second the es7. Else it looks like an overwhelming majority are telling you to go with the grados or ms1 - for the price you wont be disappointed with them.

Just throwing it out there.. Consider the Koss KSC-75. Dirt cheap ($20 on ebay) and 90% of my SR-325i. Similar signature, lightweight and portable, easy to drive, cheap to replace. What's not to love?
