My Dad is looking for a relatively inexpensive ($100-$150) amp for his HD600s. Mainly to be used with classical music from a cd player.

Thoughts?

Find a used Audio gd NFB-12 for under $190

I'm using it right now with my hd-600.  I don't think your going to find a better value; IMO NFB-12 is the best amp/DAC you'll find sub $200, but its as good as many things more expensive than it

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm hoping for people with experiences with these amps so that I can find a good "match" between the headphones and the amp.

For example, it seems as if the Schiit amps are a good match for the HD580/600/650 headphones, but they are all too expensive.

There are tons of amps out there that I'm sure would "work", I was just hoping for something that would be a good fit.

How is O2 compare to E9 or E10?

Of these, only the E10 has a DAC.The O2 can output a few times more power than the E10, and is roughly comparable to the E9 (if the gain and input level are set optimally). The E9 is the noisiest, and has relatively high output impedance. The O2 is the least noisy. The E9 is best used with relatively high impedance headphones, while O2 works well with almost any headphone, unless it has unusual or extreme requirements (electrostatics, AKG K1000, Hifiman HE-6 at high volume, etc.).

The O2 is a great match for the 600s, at your budget your not really going to find anything better. I own all of the gear I suggest. The E9 is great for the money, but can't touch the sound stage. The O2 is as good as it's source.
