was wondering,

If there was a 1/8" audio out port........

should i get a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter for that port to use my 1/4" plug headphones?

OR

should i get a 1/4" to 1/8" plug for my headphones to use in my 1/8" audio out port?

does it matter which way i do the converting? also, any recommendations on the best [clean/sound] adapters?

The adapters you are talking about are one and the same. You have a 1/8" female audio port, and a 1/4" jack on your headphone. So, you need an adapter with a 1/4" female jack going to a 1/8" male plug. Nothing else will work. Grado makes a good one, but I haven't had any problems using the one from Radio Shack as needed.

I'd recommend the grado one. I haven't used the ratshack one, but from what I've heard here, it causes unnecessary stress on the jack, and may break it!

I'll second andrzejpw recommendation. The Grado, while costing more, is a very fine cable and does not put the pressure on the headphone jack like the non-cable version will. If you value your equipment, go with the Grado converter.

Agree with Hirsch that the cheap one piece gold plated RS adaptor works fine, but the more expensive Grado unit does provide better strain relief (as Dean mentions) which is useful if using heavy cable like Clou (also 6" more of cable length)

Yup, i gotta third the Grado adapter, i had a lot of problems with the RS adapter, it stuck onto the jack of every discman...not a good thing.

The Grado is a very short, high quality cable with no noticeable impact on the sound quality. Which is why it cost more than a $1.95.

I fourth the Grado recommendation. I use one with my Corda HA-1 since Jan Meier has proved that while he may be a super genius he is aesthetically fallible and doesn't include 1/4" jacks on his otherwise excellent amp. (I like to mention this wherever possible--damned 1/8" jacks.)

just to defend radioshack lol.....i found a cable that has a female 1/8 and 1/4 on one end and the male counterparts on the other..connectors are gold plated..or colored lol...but...it is a cable and not a single piece....it has worked great so far.....the radioshack model number is 42-24998
