I have connected my 0404 USB to logitech Z 5500 using optical. There is no sound no matter what i do, music , movies etc.
When connected to motherboard optical out, sound is there.

Where am I going wrong, any settings on the 0404 that i need to change ?

yes i changed output playback device to 0404. no luck.

headphone out is working fine on the 0404.

hmmm, that sucks if optical doesnt work connected to speakers.
will try to find solutions and report back if any success.

what is the dif in the mother board optical and the 404??

the 0404 USB optical output is channels 3 and 4, -not- 1 and 2. Also, it does not passthrough - it is truly 4 in 4 out.

You could use the motherboard optical out, there are probably zero meaningful differences between that and the 0404.

Whether or not you'll like the dac in the Z5500's is a different question, though.

the EMU has native ASIO support, mobo out however doesn't

I doubt that's really going to matter coming out of a z-5500.
