Happy (late) Festivus!

Bocchi the Rock! is solid. Very meme-y but enjoyable nonetheless if you kinda sorta want to fill that void K-On has left behind.

Now I probably don't have to ask....but is Chainsaw Man graphic/gory? Aahahahah maybe I'll just mute and look away for the scary bits.

Chinese cartoons

I have been meaning to binge Bocchi and Chainsaw Man, but instead was catching up on my never ending PTW list + Valheim again. I did smash out:

3D Kanojo: went from 5/10 with S1 to at least 8/10 with S2
Binbougami ga!: Love me a solid parody anime, reminds me a bit of Nyaruko-san
Paripi Koumei: My only criticism is it wasn’t long enough. I love how appreciative the series is of Ancient Chinese history

Excellent OP, not so excellent audio quality even though it’s from the offical YouTube channel

Edit: yes slay

Defo looking forward to this season; at the very least DanMachi S4, In/Spectre S2, Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko, Isekai Handyman

Guess I'll make my annual Best Of post this week some time. I watched a bit less anime this year, I'm getting even better at dropping stuff as I age. Still watched well over 100 series this year though.

I tried this on a whim without reading the synopsis. I was expecting cutesy maid cafe competition like coming up with creative menus or something.

I got 70s mafia turf battles. ><

Woooo got Atelier Sophie 2 on sale for 40% off on Fanatical. (still only like 3 hours into Ryza 2...you know after living with the M1 Mac mini I hate turning on the gaming PC it feels so wasteful energy wise ahahah)

I have seen at most 10 series this year minus rewatches. I haven't been keeping up with new releases and my interest hasn't been great. But, I plan on watching more this year! Anyways, I might leave my own "Best of 2022" list soon.

Hidden gem for sure.

No kidding, these days when the weather is like 30+°C, I really feel the heat that my PC spits out into the room.

Ok here is my 2022 Top 10 anime list. In the past few months I've started to make an effort to catch up on the movies I've missed the past 5 years or so. It used to be easier to keep up with them as there were only 4 or 5 per year that weren't Doreamon or Detective Conen types for the kids. Then Your Name happened and all of a sudden the pocketbooks opened up with the executives and we're getting like 20+ adult anime movies per year.

1) Akiba Meido Sensou
2) Akebi-chan no Sailor-fuku
3) Shadows House 2nd Season
4) Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen 3rd Season
5) Do It Yourself!!
6) Chikyuugai Shounen Shoujo
7) Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou
8) Paripi Koumei
9) Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story
10) Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu: Die Neue These - Sakubou

According to MAL I only completed 93 anime series/movie/ova last year. Definitely toned down from the past 10 years. It's been getting easier to drop the boilerplate isekai series' every season and there has been an uptick in shounen productions and I've never been much of a fan of typical battle shounen tropes so that's why you wont see an AoT/JJK/Chainsaw/MHA above from me.

I still need to catch the Cyberpunk and Summertime Rendering anime, sounds like they could have made my list above. Maybe they'll show on my 2023 list!

I heard about Your Name but didn't know it was considered an "adult" movie. It was either this year or last year that I have seen an influx of new adult shows like Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi (which I did not like). Out of all the shows you listed, I have only seen Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun. The Made in Abyss series is great and all, but I hoped I would enjoy the new season more: a lot of explaining and also boring at times. Like the first season of the show, the first few episodes captivated me. Anyways, I may check out your top 3 shows to see if I can find the enjoyment you get from them.

In 2022, I decided to watch a lot of the hyped shows like MHA, AoT, JJK, and Demon Slayer. Honestly wasn't disappointed in them and I think that AoT is way ahead and deserves a spot near the top of my ranking list.

Here is my Top 10 List of anime I have seen in 2022. I don't think I have seen at least 10 shows that released in 2022, so I will give a list of shows that I have seen in 2022 with some including releases of the same year. Note that I enjoyed watching everything listed here and wouldn't consider them "bad" anime shows.

1) Attack on Titan Series. Genuinely impressed with this and don't know why I didn't see this sooner. I think this anime has common cliches and some forgettable episodes. But, I enjoyed how I could watch episode after episode with no fatigue and also continue watching with some excitement. I enjoyed the setting and also the struggle the characters go through. The theme of the story and the overall direction of the story isn't too predictable. Also, they did a great job choosing Sawano to make their soundtrack.

2) Avatar: The Last Airbender. Not really an anime but I will include it. Like AoT, I had no fatigue with each episode and I could watch many and many in one sitting. The characters are memorable because have a lot of personality. The plot is excellent and I still enjoy it even though I know it is geared towards children. Everything on the list from this point forward is something I enjoyed but nearly not enough as #1 and #2.

3) The Legend of Korra. Love the updated soundtrack from Zuckerman and artwork. Story is fairly good but I cannot help but be interested in the characters from the first show. Wasn't a fan of the majority of characters in Korra. The fights felt like they were going nowhere knowing they couldn't kill off a character since the story is geared towards children.

4) Cells at Work! Series. Enjoyed the first 6 episodes and the rest is mediocre. The main character has amazing personality. The platelets are extremely cute. The show is educational and they made it quite fun to watch. After finishing the show, I even took precautions in my health so I could try to preserve each cell and give them an enjoyable life unlike the body in the Black edition/series.

5) Jujutsu Kaisen. The artwork in the fights are amazing. Not many notable characters outside of the main ones like Yuuji and Goujou. Wasn't a fan of the fighting overall because every move seemed powerful but the aftermath don't seem that way. Not a fan of the typical Japanese humor cliches used in this show. In the end, still enjoyable.

6) Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun. Overall, it has the same mysterious and adventure elements of the original season. Enjoyed the brutal topics and also violence shown in the show for an artwork that is quite cutesy. However, some confusing/random parts and also the large amounts of explaining the characters did made me not enjoy the show as much as I hoped. P.S. Penkin did an amazing job!

7) My Hero Academia Series. Fairly disappointed compared to how much attention it has been getting. I found it overall alright but boring. I can't remember any notable fight scenes. I like how many characters get represented. I can't think of many other good or bad things to say.

8) Restaurant to Another World Season 2. I don't remember much of the show. It followed the premise of the first one which I enjoyed. I would recommend the first and second season as a calming anime series about food. Not much conflict.

9) Overlord IV. Fairly disappointed as well compared to how amazing the first and second seasons were. I watched the main character build his empire politically. Nothing new seems to be added. And to top it: the action wasn't even good. I don't recall many fights at all where I thought a character was badass.

10) The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2. We get to see more into the adventures of Naofumi. All of the new characters are forgettable and I don't remember what they really accomplished in that season besides move slightly forward.

In the animation industry anything targeted at people over the age of around 12 is considered adult animation and not in a western "porn" sense for the term adult. The industry likes to differentiate between things you'd find for toddlers thru younger childhood and stuff for tweens and up that adults also tend to watch more.

I agree that MiA s2 was a bit slow, I personally am more into the exploration and wonder the series can provide and s2 was pretty short on those. However, the story was still plenty interesting and the raw imagination in the setting and character designs still can't be beat.

If you're into the hype series you listed, of my top 3 you might be most likely to enjoy Akiba maid

Your Name falls under the "Seinen" genre, which literally means "mature age", that's it.

When Western/US "adult jokes" and "childish humor" are basically the same thing, I think some bonking and jailing is in order

Reminds me of the magic that is Suzumiya Haruhi no Gensou

The brass ensemble in both of the above videos also reminds me that I haven't even watched Euphonium S2 nor Liz and the Blue Bird yet, what am I doing with my life

My ears and brain did not deceive me, they are in fact two different songs sharing the same title

Defo looking forward to this season; at the very least DanMachi S4, In/Spectre S2, Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko, Isekai Handyman
I am picking up more series than expected

@ DanMachi IV Part 2: yes give me more despair
@ Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko: Rie Takahashi voicing Tomo is giving me Haruka Tomatsu as Ranmaru vibes
@ TenTen Kakumei: not bad ngl, I am looking forward to Anis' trolling. Liberate Euphy, revolution of our times
@ Tondemo Skill: I dig the premise, haven't seen food look this good in anime since Fate/Stay for Dinner, wolf familiar knows what's up
@ Roukin: Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement: kinda same energy as Tondemo Skill, Mitsuha's ability to travel inter-dimensionally is pretty much what Log Horizon and co were trying to achieve.
@ OniMai: Skemissus skemister, your brother is now your sister: based Studio Bind, the adaptation approach is actually kinda refreshing, having read the manga a few years ago.
ann_K8h7TiQCNQK_epveLMPT1IHUL8KcVD2f2EUTDIQ.jpg
@ Hero-King to Extraordinary Contender for best girl of the season: can't get enough of Akari Kitou's mellow, "stoic" voice; Tsukasa from ToniKawa, Horikita from Classroom of the Elite, Momo from Machikado Mazoku etc.
Bofuri season 2 for me.
Maple is back at it again with game-breaking shenanigans.

Haven't yet started In/Spectre S2 and Isekai Handyman, and low key wanna pick up NieR: Automata, Spy Classroom, and Buddy Daddies. What do?

Power pin is visibly more worn than the other pins, but no discolouration, so to speak.

Lightning-Cable-and-Port-Pinout.jpg
All of my old Anker USB-A lightning cables are like this except charred black and eventually stop charging until I scrape off the crud, and even then they don't charge as well. I blame my gf's use of my cables after she uses her phone in the shower hah
We gettin' old brah.
nooooo, say it ain't so!

Happy new year Deadly!

Yes chainsaw man is super gory lol

BTW any recommendations for places to go in Cambodia? I recall you going there many years back, I might be going there next month if everything goes according to plan
