I don't think there are really complaints, some people just want clarification on how the amp operates.

Was referring partly to the article quoted several pages back and some critiques of the way the amp is balanced. Not referring to anyone in particular

Yeah, that article was also critical of the components used and layout and construction of the boards. In my mind they were implying that Cavalli was trying to hide their set up from customers, yet pictures of the boards were presented by Cavalli at the very start of their V1 announcement.  Like most, sound is what counts, and the SQ suits me just fine.  IMO

I'm not really sure why folks are so hung up on the LC not being differential and a bridged solution. It's still a balanced circuit #1 and sorry to offend but the price point is not what I would call high end. IMO sound matters, build quality I get the complaints there but circuit design, I'm puzzled over those complaints.

Because the ad copy doesn't support what you actually get. Usually fully balanced implies differential balanced, which has the potential for better performance. It's also not fully discrete as the phase splitter uses opamps.

Note that Kevin Gilmore and his circuit designs, i.e. Dynalo, have been around head-fi before Head-Fi (the forum) so IMO his analysis carries a lot of weight. Together with Spritzer, they're responsible for some of the best electrostatic and dynamic headphone amps money can buy.

I've got no qualms about liking a component for the way it sounds. But don't be surprised if the Carbon develops problems over time.

If it carries so much weight and he carries so much weight why is he and that web site banned from many forums? Why is their site posts banned from other sites?

Problems over time? That's a heck of a boogieman style claim.

I dunno. Why don't you ask them yourself or the Head-Fi mods? Maybe the mods will give you the inside scoop since you're a sponsor.

There seems to be plenty of anecdotal evidence that these amps (at least from the first batch) aren't made to last, hence the lifetime warranty. I was one of the buyers that waited for a Carbon v1 and had a hum issue when using balanced in / SE out straight out of the box. To Cavalli's credit, he fixed the issue quickly, but not without him taking a needless potshot at my disc player (Ayre Acoustics C-5xeMP), claiming it was at fault. It was especially strange since Ayre Acoustics is held in high esteem within the hi-fi industry.

Beware of problems you might encounter based upon scant annectodal evidence that will be addressed for free by the manufacturer.

However you want to rationalize or portray it... be my guest.

Man am I ever sorry I answered and simply thought out loud. This has become a pissing match and that was not my intent.

My apologies, I was trying to provide a better understanding of what was meant by the posts on that other forum as well as some history on the posters themselves. I've no personal interest in seeing any of these companies or people succeed or fail - I've been in head-fi long enough (back when the Discman was considered a high-end portable source) to know they'll do so on their own merits.
