Review on HtC 10 and Sound quality (AQstic Dedicated Integrated DAC)
Sep 4, 2016 at 3:01 PM Post #301 of 1,164
Hi, I have recently started noticing static noise on my HTC 10, started by itself.

-Whenever a sound (any sound) is played on HTC 10, I hear a slight little static noise for 3-4 seconds, and then it disappears. It happens when I use any headphones.
My phone is 100 % stock, haven`t messed with some advanced audio settings. Boomsound on or off, doesn`t matter.

The best way to check this is to go to HTC Help app ---> Hardware misbehaving ----> Hardware diagnostics ---> HEADSET TEST.
Play the sound..
After the sound ends, you should hear a very slight static noise that disappears after 3-4 seconds.

(2 persons have confirmed to me that they have this noise as well on other forums)

I tried this ^^ with all kinds of regular low impeadance in-ear headphones (HTC Hi-Res headphones that I got with the phone, Sennheiser CX400 etc.)
Though I haven˙t tried with some studio quality headphones because I don`t have them.

Also the issue is present in youtube videos. When I pause the video, I hear the static noise for 3-4 seconds. Same thing with music and games.
I am very satisfied with this phone, but this is somewhat unnaceptable for a phone which main focus is good audio.

I hope someone can tell me more about this issue.

Sorry - I dont have this issue. I tried your test though and no static for me. Maybe your jack wiring is bad?

"Jack wiring", you mean on my headphones ? Tried all of my in-ear headphones on other devices, PC etc..no static whatsoever,

Anyway, forgot to mention, my software is updated (1.90.401.5), tried headphones that dont have a microphone. The whitenoise static is always there.

Just tried playing the tune in the headset test while having muted volume. I still hear the static noise, but not the tune (because it`s muted, obviously ).

When I try the above with my HyperX Cloud headset (average gaming headset, 60 Ω), I can hear the static just barely, it`s much quieter than on my low impedance in-ear headphones (HTC ones and Sennheiser CX400).

I just watched the video, and there was one phrase that puzzled me and I hope the guy was wrong in what e said.
He said unless you enable "HTC BoomSound with Dolby Audio" the DAC for HTC10 is not enabled.
I sure hope he is wrong as I don't like using either the "Dolby headphone effect" or the "Personal audio profile" as I find they distort the authentic music...

You can choose both or only one of them to be active, your choice, easy to change.

Poweramp has a "Bass extreme" preset, I tried that and it sounds good with the MSR 7. I'm not a bass head but the phone and headphones handle it fine without any obvious distortion.

For normal listening, just over half volume for me is a good listening level with the MSR7's when playing a typical compressed recently released album. I've done the HTC advanced headphone correction and the HTC 10 make the MSR7's sound as good as I've ever heard them, with great treble extension and a nice balanced sound.

I think the MSR7's were made for this kind of combo for portable music and they don't disappoint.

If you want me to try a particular track please let me know.

Hi. I am looking for earphones for htc 10. Have some ideas? Is ath ckr9(not hi res cert) or ath ckr 10(hi res) suitable? Or dunu 2000j... Or sennheiser ie80... I am lost:) pop music mostly, 80,90's. Enya. Enigma type also.

I just don't understand one thing. When i do headset
test, I don't see anywhere
"After the sound ends, you should hear a very slight static noise that disappears after 3-4 seconds." You do?

Hi , need to double check and confirm with you guys , does the current HTC 10 support audio output as a source via Otg micro usb audio out to Dac/Amp ?

Anyone currently using otg Micro usb with the 10 audio out to Dac / amp ?
Advise thanks

^^ Nevermind, it was a kernel related problem, flashed an older version of the kernel and the static noise is gone. :)
The problem was "Headphone analog gain" feature that introduced static noise.

I am glad you solved it. Go now and put the answer of that problem around. 10 is awesome device, nice to hear no unsolved problems on it. Boomsound rocks, it's much better than Samsung's boombattery :)

I would say it's slightly less than the LG V10 with hi-fi dac activated and a lot more than Xperia Z5. If you only use iems I don't think you will have a problem with power.

Do you have suggestion for best 100-300€ earphone for htc 10? Pop music (80-2000), enigma, enya type also... S ie80 or ath ckr10 or rha t20 or dunu 2000j...

Really depends on what kind of sound you like, the dunus are generally a good choice (also look at the 2000), you can add the orivetti primacy to the list as a smoother alternative.

all android version 5.0 and above supports USB audio. U can connect the USB DAC without any issues, just make sure you buy good quality cable. cheaper ones mostly wont detect.
But unless you are coupling higher end DAC, you wont feel the difference in sound quality because HTC 10 has a very good DAC.
