EarWerkz Supra - The Universal Custom In-Ear Monitor

Thanks to EarWerkz for providing the professional picture.

It’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s the EarWerkz Supra!  How could I come to such a statement that would compare an IEM to one of the world’s most well-known and respected comic book and movie heroes of our time?  In order to find out, we have to first learn a little more about EarWerkz, and of course divulge into the Supra itself.  I have always found being able to eat and/or drink while watching TV, hanging out with friends, even reading reviews makes the watching and or reading to be that much more enjoyable.  Get a tasty drink ready, relax, and you’ll be immersed with an in-depth look into the auditory bliss that I am experiencing as I am writing this review.  If you can’t get that tasty drink, just imagine you are drinking something scrumptious – for those who like food more, snack on something yummy or just imagine you are.  You are in the driver’s seat now or the passenger seat if you can’t drive – let’s go!

EarWerkz is a company that I found out while perusing the threads on Head-Fi, and found out that they were having a Kickstarter campaign for their Supra, which is the EP-II’s successor.  I was not in the market for a new IEM, but as I read more about the campaign, thought that the introductory and Kickstarter Backer prices were very reasonable, and thought that the Supra’s sound signature could compliment my IEM collection – so I backed the campaign.  Add in the Stretch Goals for the Backers, and you have very loyal Backers from around the world wanting everyone to purchase the Supra so they could be able to obtain new options or perks.

The Supra!  Yellow Shell - Left, Smoke Shell - Right:

Here’s the list of the Stretch Goals with regards to the Kickstarter campaign that ended:

1st Stretch Goal:   The Supras will receive some Legendary treatment. Our flagship 7-way, 8 driver "Legend R" custom in-ear monitor boasts nothing but premium BLUE and GOLD Estron ESW Litz Stranded Wires internally and if we meet this stretch we will incorporate these amazing wires into ALL of the Supras in this campaign.

2nd Stretch Goal:  The Supras will be offered with two different color shells, one for each side. That is a lot of work but EarWerkz said they were willing to put in the sweat equity!  Also added option: Matte Black Faceplate.

Final Stretch:   The Supras will be offered with the option to choose the Estron Linum BaX Cable instead of the stock EarWerkz Cable.  Some technical information regarding the Linum Cable:  “Linum is based on es-Linum 6+ cable: 6 litz conductors made up of 7 individual strands.  Each strand is silver plated copper with enamel. It will not corrode or change color.  The strength comes from aramid fibers.  Pull strength 60N ~ 13 Lb.  The jacket is made from TPA. It is skin-friendly approved and UV stabilized, so it will not turn yellow if exposed to sunlight.

The design is typically Danish which is famous for combining simplicity and functionalism. This has allowed for both an aesthetically pleasing cable and a significantly reduced overall mass of 2.7 g ~ 0.095 Oz."

Kickstarter Backer Exclusive:   By pledging an additional $35.00 to the Supra reward the Backers are first to own a fully custom version of the Supra, meaning that it'll be customized exactly to each Backer’s ear anatomy, and the only buyers that will receive it with the Estron Linum BaX cable as part of reaching the "Final Stretch" goal.

This requires a trip to the audiologist for ear impressions.   On the Kickstarter update page, some useful information: “We wanted to give Kickstarter Backers the opportunity to experience the Supra the same way the most discerning audiophile and musician would. While the Supra Universal was designed to be an superb performer the custom version, like any other universal vs. custom, will always sound better as it's inserted deeper into your canal and seals off perfectly to your anatomy.  Please visit this page for ear impression requirements should you decide to go the custom route: http://www.earwerkz.com/earimpressionrequirements/”.  Also, EarWerkz provided a second set of Comply T-400 tips for all of the Backers, so in total the Backers received 2x Small, 2x Medium, & 2x Large tips.

If you order the Supra now, you will be able to get most of the stretch goals as part of the cost of the Supra.

Epiphany

Finding out about the EarWerkz Supra Kickstarter campaign was an awe-inspiring endeavor for me.  I was not in the market for a “middle tier” IEM (the stretch goal obtained changed the Supra to a CIEM option), and liked the customer service of Jack Vang, CEO of EarWerkz - and thought the Kickstarter price was reasonable and would be a great gift for my fiancée, and if she didn’t like it, I could just have the Supra for myself.  Since this is her first IEM, I wanted to purchase the universal version, also, so I could listen to the Supra as well!  The Supra purchase was admittedly an interesting purchase because I did not listen to it before buying, but the few people who did hear it adored the sound, so I jumped right in, and am very ecstatic that I did.

Color Choosing Process

EarWerkz offers a multitude of colors for the Supra.

Shell colors available:

Clear, Pink, Blue, Turquoise, Magenta, Red, Purple, Orange, Smoke, Emerald, Yellow and Beige

Click on the image, then click the "Original" button (may be only able to via Desktop mode button on bottom of thread with smartphones/devices) to see a larger view of the colors.

February 2015 - A new color is available, called "Green Envy", shown below:

Faceplate colors available – Gloss Black, Gloss White, Crystal Clear, Matte Black (Kickstarter Backer Option)

You can also choose shell colors independently as well, e.g. turquoise for one shell and orange for the other.

I wanted to purchase colors that I would normally never purchase because for one, I am interested in seeing other colors in person, and, I wanted to pick the colors that my fiancée wanted.  I asked her “what two colors would you like for your Supra?”  She replied “Yellow and Smoke.”  So that’s what I went with.  I let Jack know that he could just surprise me with which side has which color shell, and I wound up receiving the Yellow shell for the left side, and the Smoke shell for the right side.

Ear Impression Process

If you want to obtain the custom version of the Supra, make sure to get impressions from an audiologist that preferably has experience creating impressions for CIEMs.  You can check out EarWerkz’s “Ear Impression Requirements” for detailed instructions on how to create impressions.  For the fully custom created EarWerkz Legend R, I went to see Sensaphonics Double Golden Circle member and audiologist-to-the-Stars of Musicians Hearing Services, Lisa Tannenbaum to create the impressions, as I had success with her creating impressions for my Sensaphonics Custom Sleeves.  Ms. Tannenbaum (her client list: http://www.musicianshearing.com/clients1.html) does not use a bite block, and has me open my mouth and hold it when the goo is being injected in my ear canal(s), and then talk normally as the impression is curing. I am not stating one method is better over the other, but I am saying there are other methods than not moving your jaw to create the most versatile impressions.  The Legend R feels amazing in my ears and the seal does not get broken, even if I open my jaw as wide as I can.

Time to Arrive

If you were a Kickstarter Backer, the time you receive the Supra will depend on your backer number and/or what additional goodies (like an EarWerkz T-Shirt) you purchased.  First batches were sent as of January 2015, so Backers will be experiencing the Supra very soon, if they have not received theirs by now.  EarWerkz offers a 10 day turnaround, which is phenomenal, if you ask me.  Other C/IEM companies offer 6-8 week turnarounds, or even as long as 3-6 month turnarounds!  Needless to say, it is refreshing that a company like EarWerkz provides impeccably created C/IEMs at a very respectable time frame.

Packaging and Accessories

The Supra comes with an EarWerkz felt-lined soft-hard case, EarWerkz microfiber cloth, acoustic bore cleaning tool, two pairs of Comply T-400 foam tips (Small, Medium, Large) and a signed thank you letter (for the Kickstarter Backers).  I chose the Estron Linum Bax Cable (measured 48 inches) instead of the stock cable for the Supra.

Aesthetics

The Supra and all of EarWerkz's offerings are 100% created in Georgia, USA.  From the Kickstarter Supra website (edited): “Each set undergoes an extremely laborious process that takes days before completion. Starting from mere liquid we pour the medical grade, hypoallergenic acrylic into the colloid caste to form its shape. The liquid filled caste then goes through several stages of UV and nitrogen treatment to cure.  Once solid several phases of manual trimming and detailing follow until we achieve our signature ultra-smooth, glossy, flawless finish that can only be achieved by decades of experience behind the industrial tools that we utilize here in our shell lab.”  The custom created universal version of the Supra looks amazing, like a piece of high-priced jewelry.  The opacity of the shell colors is as close to perfect as can be – the color of the shells are rich and the hue looks polished as such that I can still see the internals easily as well.  The Supra’s Blue and Gold Estron Linum Litz internal wires are measured, cut and installed without clutter; EarWerkz tunnels each wire individually through “clear electromagnetic interference shield tubing to maximize consistency and performance”.  I did not want to have a Backer number associated with my Supra, as I was not the first backer, and I thought it would be great if I just didn’t have a number (like say, 78) after the Kickstarter placement on the Supra.  I am a fan of the labels denoting whatever you want them to say, as it is inserted on the inside of the housing, and is easily legible.  The Supra is one of, if not, the most gorgeously immaculate IEMs that I have ever seen, regardless of the company and shell/faceplace colors/options.

Here are some pictures of the various gorgeous views of the Supra:

Weight

The Supra weighs close to nothing: a few grams, each housing.  Add in the Estron Linum BaX Cable which weighs close to nothing, and you very well may have the lightest, most immensely engaging and sounding setup in its price range in the world.

Fit and Feel

Comply T-400 Tips (Small, Medium, Large) - Side by Side:

Comply T-400 Tips (Small, Medium, Large) - Stacked:

I am a custom kind of person.  I have custom orthotics for my feet, custom mouthguards for Wrestling (real), the Legend R CIEM, the silicone Sensaphonics Custom Sleeves for my Shure SE846, and other custom products.  I also normally do not like to use foams with my IEMs.  However, the included Comply T-400 foam tips are very comfortable, and I don’t even have to compress them to insert the small size foams in my ears.

Supra - Left Side:

Supra - Right Side:

Here is a human outer ear diagram (from healthfavo.com) to help with the names of parts of the ear:

One difference between the Supra and other universal IEMs is that most IEMs only have the cavum portion of the ear taken care of.  The Supra, on the other hand, not only takes care of the cavum portion of the ear, but also has additional molding around the cymba portion of the ear, which bodes well for comfort and stability.  The small housing that can fit very small ears, the very, very low weight of the Supra, the soft and supple Comply T-400 tips, and the Estron Linum BaX couple creates a very comfortable, flush-fitting, and exceptionally feather–light feeling in your ears.  You may not notice anything in your ears and just focus on the superbly sounding music!

SpinFit to Your Heart’s Content

Before the Supra arrived at my doorstep, I was searching for the best silicone tips, and came to the conclusion that paying for the SpinFit (and not the Spiral Dots or any other silicone tips) was the best option for me based on a few reasons, but mainly because the SpinFit has 360 degrees of free rotation, and it is able to conform/angle towards the ear canal opening as opposed to other fixed-tube tips that cannot.  Technically, at least those reasons alone should make the SpinFit one of the best options out there for universal Supra owners.

Head-Fier Dopaminer provided me with 5 pairs of SpinFit – 2 pairs of Small, 2 pairs of Medium, and 1 pair of Large.  I should be set for the foreseeable future regarding all sizes for anyone who wants to audition the Supra!

If you have larger ears, you may prefer the Large size SpinFit.  The Large size make the Supra stick out of my average-sized ears somewhat, even though the seal was sufficient.  The Medium size may be seen as too small for some people, but it did fit me well, however was unable to push the Supra’s tube/bore fully into my ears.  The Small size fit me the best and will be discussed more below.  I personally purchased all three sizes so I would have the best chance to fit the sizes-fit-all tips to most everyone’s ears.

The SpinFit in my opinion - is a game changer.  The Large size is great if you want an airier sound if you have average-sized ears, Medium size is great for comfort and embodies an adequate seal, but the Small size enables most people to have the entire tube/bore deepest in the ear canal, resulting in unparalleled seal and isolation, and every facet of the entire frequency range is elevated.  The “custom” in “universal custom” is that much more apparent with tips that can provide simply epic isolation coupled with a deep fit and seal.  As a result with the use of the Small size SpinFit, subbass/midbass is more pronounced, mids are even more easier to discern, and the highs may be perceptively higher as well…simply amazing.  Compared to the Comply T-400 foam tips, the SpinFit (especially the Small size) simply sounds more coherent, more resolving regarding the sound signature and the perception of increased bass response is apparent.  The foams are great on their own and I believe they are a viable option, but not having to replace the SpinFit every so often (especially if you work out regularly) and the ability to clean the silicone tips easier makes the SpinFit an almost necessary recommendation.

Other Replacement Tip Options

You can purchase other 3rd party foam and silicone tips such as well if you want to experience a different sound and overall experience, as the foam tips (due to overhang, length of tips, etcetera) may change the perceived sound by attenuating the treble and silicone tips may not be perceived to sound as warm as the Comply or foam tips.  As long as you find tips that fit you’ll be okay, as the Supra’s tube is around 5 mm in width, shown here using the i-Ruler iPhone app:

Easy C/IEM Side Detection

Even if you didn’t purchase a different shell color for each side, there is still a very easy way to distinguish the right and left sides of the IEMs.  Look directly (as others would see the Supra) at the housing.  The direction that the cable is facing is the Supra side.  Meaning, if the cable is facing to the left, it means that specific Supra housing is the left side and goes into your left ear.  It is the same concept with regards to the right side.  Now you do not have to look for any small dots that may or may not be difficult to find based on various factors, including not having the best eyesight, or the IEMs may not be in the best lighting to easily distinguish the blue or red dots.  About those dots, I also like having the blue and red dots of the cable facing up, shown here:

Sound Impressions

The Supra is neutral-based, with a comforting, slight bass tilt.  Using the Estron Linum BaX Cable with Comply T-400 foam tips, creates a warm sounding, resolving, and simply epic sound.  As I listened to it for the first time, I was in sheer awe that an IEM at this price point sounds as amazing as it sounds.  For its price, it sounds better than a lot of IEMs that are at least double the price.  The clarity, neutrality with warmness, and entire frequency spectrum satisfaction is immediately apparent – no burn in necessary.  Using the stock Pro Series Cable with the Comply T-400 foam tips, creates a neutral sounding, detail retrieving sound signature.  The stock cable is great if you want supreme clarity, and a slightly more resolved and coherent sound.   Regarding my favorite cable of the two for the Supra; since it is not the top-of-the-line IEM that the Legend R is, I feel the Supra sounds most blissful with the Linum Cable, as I prefer it over the stock cable.  I do prefer the stock cable over the Linum Cable when I listen to the Legend R however, as I love the layered and rich detail retrieval, with some of the best overall coherency and musicality that I have ever heard in a C/IEM.

Cable Comparisons

The stock Pro Series Cable is offered Over-The-Ear (detachable) and Straight Down (hard-wired to C/IEM housing).  You can choose between two colors, Titanium Silver, and Phantom Black, shown here:

Thanks to EarWerkz for providing the professional picture.

The Supra Kickstarter page states: “Starting from the 3.5mm jack are four cables that that plug straight into the in-ear monitors via a custom "splitter-less" bifurcation where the quad twisted wires are divided into two 15 inch twisted pairs.  Each cable is made with high quality silver plated tinsel wire construction with a PVC jacket. The tinsel wire provides the maximum amount of flexibility and a very low shape memory. All components are custom over-molded to make these cables reliable and very durable.”  I will say that the stock Pro Series cable is 99% + memory free, is very easy to wrap and stay wrapped, is ergonomic, feels soft to the touch, and has a glorious silver sheen to it.  The memory wire is shorter than most cable manufacturer’s cable memory wire, and is very comfortable.  There is no need to remove the memory wire, but can be removed if you so choose – just be aware that the memory wire portion of the cable is straight and not braided, so if you remove the memory wire and want the straight cable braided, you will need to either braid the cable yourself, or enlist a 3rd party cable company to braid the cable for you.  Also, the L-plug is currently being updated, as EarWerkz is working on getting a more smartphone case friendly plug.  The stock cable is my favorite stock cable that I have ever seen and used.

The Estron Linum BaX Cable contains 6 Litz conductors made up of 7 individual strands. Each strand is silver plated copper with enamel.  The strength comes from aramid fibers. Pull strength is around 13 pounds.  Your mind has to get accustomed the fact that the Linum Cable is stronger than it looks, as it doesn’t look any thicker than fishing line or dental floss.  The cable jacket is made from TPA.  What is great is that the Linum Cable will not corrode or change color, as it is skin-friendly approved and UV stabilized, so it will not turn yellow if exposed to sunlight.  The Linum Cable has an overall mass of 2.7 grams, or 0.095 ounces.  The Linum Cable feels like you are wearing nothing at all, and is an easy recommendation if you are concerned with memory wire, since the Linum Cable does not use any memory wire, and if you want a warmer sound signature and want to get lost within the music that is emitting from the Supra.

Inserting and Detaching Cables

The 2-pin connection is tight - no doubt about that, and I would not want it any other way.  With this said, it may take some finagling to insert and detach the Linum Cable and/or the stock Pro Series Cable to the Supra.

Inserting

Hold the housing of the Supra tightly with one hand (index finger and thumb as a suggestion) and using some muscle with the other hand (index fingernail and thumbnail as a suggestion) push the cable into the housing enough so at least the 2 pin prongs are not exposed or showing, meaning no gaps between the housing connector and the cable connector.

Detaching

Linum Cable - Hold the housing of the Supra tightly with one hand (index finger and thumb as a suggestion) and pull using some muscle with the other hand (index fingernail and thumbnail in the connector grooves as a suggestion).

Stock Pro Series Cable - Hold the housing of the Supra tightly with one hand (index finger and thumb as a suggestion) and pull using some muscle with the other hand (index finger and thumb as a suggestion).  You may also want to slightly wiggle the cable towards and away while you are pulling if you are having difficulties detaching the cable, making sure to not damage or bend the 2-pin prongs.

Here are suggested ways to position your fingers and thumbs to detach the Linum Cable and/or stock Pro Series Cable:

Are Your Earphones Correctly Inserted?

The frequency response across the full audio spectrum should be smooth, and the bass response should be fully present - that is, if you have a "full, tight seal".  If you have any doubts regarding hearing both earphones equally (assuming you don't have a hearing tested significant FR imbalance), you can self-administer the "Audio Seal" test - it's to help determine if your earphones (Universals/CIEMs) are correctly inserted. The webpage comes with downloadable and streamable audio files in .mp3 or .wav format. The test is great to find out if you have a correct insertion and proper fit, and can also reveal other issues other than an incomplete and/or poor seal. From the webpage: "The test consists of two brief audio tracks. Both include two sine waves, one at 50 Hz and the other at 500 Hz, played at the same volume. On one track, the two tones are played together. On the other track, the tones alternate in 2-second intervals."

Comparisons

I wanted to compare the Supra to an IEM that I use frequently, and that is the Shure SE846, but I feel that the sound signature of the SE846 compliments the Supra, and the sound signatures are different enough that I think a better route to take will be to compare the Supra to its bigger, top-of-the-line sibling – the Legend R.  For those who wanted a comparison between the two heavy-hitters, and those who are at least curious, read on…

My Legend R - Blue Shells with Crystal Clear Faceplaces:

Power to Drive the Supra

Using the iPhone 6, it takes 1 to 2 higher volume clicks for the Supra to reach the Legend R’s volume level.  All of EarWerkz offerings are designed to be sensitive and as such, work very well with smartphones - which is great, because I like to use only the iPhone 6 to drive my C/IEMs.

Bass

The bass of the Supra is satisfying.  It is not too high, and not at all too low.  Definitely not as articulate or has the quantity of the 8 driver top-of-the-line Legend R, but is still satisfying, nonetheless.  Also, the bass increases with quantity with EQ.  The Legend R, on the other hand, is more versatile with regards to EQ.  The bass increases with quantity, but also retains the quality aspect of the bass as well.

Mids

The mids are where the Supra shines.  Sublime, creamy smooth, enveloping, and awe-inspiring.  The Legend R’s mids are clearly more defined and coherent, but the Supra does a great job with what it's got.  It’s like the Supra is the equivalent of the Mitsubishi Evo that has so much horsepower, and is so powerful, but uses only 4 cylinders, minus the possible costly repair bills!  The 2 drivers that the Supra uses is working overtime, and is paying the bills when it comes to the mids!

Highs

The highs are also where the Supra shines.  Are they super-duper resolved like its bigger sibling, the Legend R?  No, but the Supra does good work emitting convincingly surreal highs from its miniscule, yet very capable housing.

Sound Signatures

Simply, I sincerely believe that nothing should be changed regarding the Supra’s sublime and creamy smooth sound signature.  Nothing.  Use the Linum Cable if you want to be lost in the music, and use the stock Pro Series Cable if you want to be immersed in the music.

My Fiancée’s Assessment™

Not a “crude assessment” anymore like previously in my Tralucent Audio Ref. 1 review because she now has the Supra to listen to.  More by her actions, than her words.  This is her first IEM, and as I showed her a picture of the Supra, letting her know this was one of her Christmas gifts, she shook her head repeatedly and said “I don’t like those, I would rather use my headphones.  You can keep them when you get them.”  I was a little distraught she didn’t immediately entertain the idea of using IEMs, but thought to myself that if she doesn’t like the Supra when it arrives; I will keep them for myself.  Mind you, I already purchased the top-of-the-line custom EarWerkz Legend R as well, so I was bracing myself to keep the Supra for myself if she didn’t like them.

Fast forward less than a month after Christmas, and the Supra arrives at my doorstep.  A couple of hours later she comes home and I tell her, “Your headphones have arrived.”  She says “Oh…okay.”  I say “Here, try it out” and proceed to insert the Supra into her ears, showing her how to wrap the super thin Linum cable behind her ears.  The fit is amazing, as the small universal custom housing conforms to her small ears just about as perfectly as if she had the Supra molded with her own impressions.  As she listens to her favorite music, her face is completely stoic.  I hear her say nothing to me.  Absolutely nothing.  She is literally in an almost hypnotic state for a few minutes, which must have been the entire length of a song.  After she takes out the Supra from her ears, I ask “So, how is it?”  She says “It sounds very good!”  She says that she likes the neutrality of the Supra, and everything sounds “just right”.

Fast-forward to the next afternoon.  She takes the Supra to the UFC Gym to work out.  She arrives at home, and I ask “How was the Supra when you were working out?”  She said “Very good, the headphones didn’t move while I was working out”.

Fast-forward to that evening.  She posts this on her Instagram:

I knew she thought it sounded “very good”, but didn’t know how she felt about the Supra, and possibly more importantly - the Supra being a gift from me until the Instagram post – which makes me think that the Supra is very capable of turning a IEM pessimistic into a fanatic, within a few moments of listening to the gloriously emitted music through the Supra.

Also, her SpinFit impression is that the audio sounds ‘clearer’ using the SpinFit tips rather than the Comply T-400 tips.

Is the Supra Right for you?

If you like a sound that is epically neutral - has some satisfying bass tied to it, but also sounds warm when using the Linum cable or more detailed with the stock Pro Series Cable, the Supra is right for you.  Here’s the thing, the Supra sounds so splendid for its price that it is worth purchasing just to listen.  If for some peculiar reason you do not like the Supra’s sound, there will be a person very close to you - could be a loved one or good friend – or a stranger for that matter, who will absolutely adore the Supra’s sound.

Summary

Remember the start of the review, I wrote that the Supra was synonymous with Superman?  It truly is, but has help becoming that Super Hero because of the technicians, marketing staff, and CEO – Jack Vang, who are the real-life heroes, that makes up the truly humble and phenomenal company that is EarWerkz.  The Supra is culminating dreams coming true, from the awesome customer service that is Jack Vang, to the seamlessly crafted acrylic housing, Litz wires galore, competent cables a-plenty, and last but not least, the enthusiastic EarWerkz community, has made my entire EarWerkz experience one that I will never forget.  I wholeheartedly recommend anyone and everyone to purchase from this great American company.  Thank you for reading my experience, and hope that if you choose to purchase the Supra, that it will create everlasting smiles as it has done with the people who have listened to it.  Happy listening, everyone!

Oh my. What a brilliant read.
Thanks!

Glad you liked the read and appreciate the kind words.  Thanks for reading!

  The fiance story was adorable

Hope I can get my girlfriend a CIEM one day too... she is also super against anything being stuffed into her ear canals..

I showed her the review and told her I added her assessment, and she said "Oh noooo...", then I said "Don't worry, people liked it" and proceeded to show her your comment.  So thank you for that!

As for your girlfriend, maybe try to gauge her ear canal size and find the appropriate size foam and silicone tip and see if she likes the fit.  I think custom sleeves feel great as well since they are medical grade silicone, but may be an expensive "test" to see if she would like the feel of the custom sleeves in her ears.

Oh wow, I love the review and all the pictures. Keep them up moedawg

Thanks Netforce, glad you enjoyed it!  Do you mean: keep the reviews coming or the pictures 'up'?  I believe I saw you at the last L.A. Head-Fi meet, so hope too see you at CanJam this year!

Thanks roguepp88!  Yeah, I didn't know how I would feel about the smoke and especially the yellow color, but they look absolutely amazing in person.  The blue looks amazing, like clear ocean water, only bluer.  I will have more Legend R (blue shells with crystal clear faceplates) pictures in my upcoming Legend R review.  The orange color does look nice as well, so you made a great choice.
Now about that Legend R...looking to obtain one?

Yeah!
I am seriously considering the Legend R after hearing all the great things about the company, the Legend R and the Supra!
I will probably wait till my Supra arrives though!
Hoping to make the best use of the discount I can get from my Kickstarter contribution!

The clear face plates looks nice indeed,
mine will be black though I think.

Hopefully it matches well...

Looking forward to your Legend R review as well!

Oh, okay cool, no worries at all, glad you loved the review and pictures. Appreciate the endearment (high fives/daps you). The Massdrop table was great. I talked to Will from Massdrop for a while, as he let me listen to his CEntrance HiFi-M8 and his Silver Sonic cable.

When you see me at CanJam, flag me down and I'll let you (or anyone else) listen to what I'll have in tow with me.

Waiting until you receive your Supra is a good idea, as you'll be able to find out if the house signature is right for you. If you like the Supra, you'll love the Legend R, as the Legend R is a natural elevated progression in every auditory aspect compared to the Supra (which is amazing in its own right). Depending on how you look at the crystal clear faceplate (especially on the Legend R) it looks like it has a slight mirror sheen to it. Gorgeous, to say the least. Since you'll be receiving the black faceplates, I think the blue and orange shells will go great with them - kind of like a Tron theme, or a tough, yet technical look. I'd like to see photos of yours when you receive them if you don't mind.

I can never describe sound the way @moedawg has done so wonderfully in the review so after I got my custom Supra and my custom Legend-R, I re-read the review. I like the car analogy. The Supra would be like a Mazda Miata MX-5 I used to have for 7 glorious years, whilst the Legend would be like a BMW M-series (which I have driven but can't afford). The beauty of our hobby is how relatively affordable it is, compared to cars at least.

Thanks George!  Describing the sound from various audio equipment is one facet that I do not enjoy very much mainly because humans hear everything very differently.  It does make me feel better when someone agrees, but there will always be someone that doesn't quite hear the same things the exact same way.

As for the car analogies, it's always fun to add in something that may be a little more tangible with regarding to interpretations.  The Miata has won numerous awards, so I know that's a nice car.  The M Series - I'll take one of those, please.  Not a fan of BMW's 'regular' series (1, 3, 5, 7, etc.) but their M lines are really nice.  I don't even mind the company lessening the cylinders from 10 or 12 to now 8.

Do you have any pictures of your Supra?  You have a blue and a red custom, right?

For @moedawg

Anyway continuing the car analogy, I guess the lesser cylinder BMWs are what the Penta will be.
