First of all: great review, as usual!

Now I have a question or two. From what I understood you can bypass the internal amp and use my own, right? And if so, did you try it?

You have the option to turn ON or OFF the internal amp. I did try my main desktop rig (GS-X Mk2) and to no surprises, the Mo-Fi's sounded better with that amp instead of the internal amp.

I have a crush on the Blue Mo -Fi , to buy or not to buy that is the question ....

I like the technology but dislike the cyborg look and weight

While I'm not a big fan of the weight, I do love the steam punk / 1950's retro sci-fi look of them. And they are S-O-L-I-D in terms of their construction.

Great review! I've owned a pair early on and have really been enjoying them.

I do note that while they power down, when you take them off, it does not stop your music from playing on my IOS devices. That is the music won't stop running on your IOS device and your playlist will have gone on to the next songs (unless you totally unplug them). Not a big deal but I wish they would make the IOS device pause when I take them off.

The other thing to be wary off is you don't want to plug these in our pull the plug from your device while the amplifier is active. I know this is common sense, but it is easy to forget that the headphones sport an on board amplifier. Likewise most people know not to have the internal amplifier on and then plug them in to an external amplifier. But again it is easy to forget.

Has anyone found a case that is big enough to transport them in? I know a bag is provided, but I'd like to get a rigid case to tote them in my backpack.

A great review, I have been looking for a good portable rig, and these headphones intrigue me.

Cool that you listen to Avenged Sevenfold, I too like the bass on the album, some good low notes that have slam if your headphones can go low, good review, enjoyed it !

To the reviewer ...

How do you think these would work in "amplified" mode running direct out from a DAC line out? Would they provide enough power via their internal amplification to take such a discreet, unamped signal and produce decent output?

Thanks in advance..

Hi Joel:

That's a good question...I had no issues whatsoever...plenty of juice in the portable amp to drive them fully.

Cheers

A great review, thank you!
I gather that you used the Mo-Fi with it's own internal amp for the review... I've heard some mixed things about the internal amp's quality...I'm glad you had a good experience.
I'll have to demo these...

To MacedonianHero:

Awesome review on a head phone I have been admiring!
Two questions, how do theMo-Fi stack up against the NAD HP50s?
Second and last, is there a proctective (hard shell?) carrying case you can purchase for the Mo-Fi's?

Beautiful headphones that sound good as well--I'm seriously considering giving these a go.

Thank you for the conscientious review.  I've been reading all the Mo-Fi reviews and I can't remember a 'phone wherein the excellence of the sound was a primary focus of each of them (other than those whose price demands the perception of excellence whether it's there or not.)  A matter of time before I pull the trigger.

Excellent! Congrats Dave! Looking forward to your thoughts!

Lorspeaker: The isolation is very good with the Mo-Fis.

Hey Peter, long time :) Have you heard the Denon D2000? I always thought they played well with unamplified portable sources for a full-size can. I take it these are a step up?
MacedonianHero

Long time for sure! I think these are more "balanced" and natural sounding headphones than the D2000s (which I still really like). Hard to say if they are a step up...if you're looking for a more neutral headphone, then the Mo-Fis are that. If you want large thundering bass and a fun sound, then the D2000s would be my recommendation.
