I got an excellent deal on my Asgard and always wanted to test out a Schiit Audio product.  I kind of underestimated them after someone saying that the Objective 2 sounds as nice as this for a lower cost.  I've built over 10 Objective 2's myself and I have to say they can't touch the quality of this product.  The thing they have going for them is basically portability.  I guess you could say that the O2 is a portable Asgard.  And when you go portable, as with headphones, you lose some quality but it's still there.  Anyways, on to my review of this wonderful little amp.  I would say that this amp is the clean and neutral sounding amp of the Bottlehead Crack.  I once had the Crack and wish I never sold it, but this thing is the next best thing.  I would say it's a 2010 version of the 1980 Bottlehead Crack look and feel.  It isn't as warm as the Crack, but still has some nice warmness to it.  It does get very hot, even the volume knob, so be careful.  That is probably the biggest con which most people can agree.  The Crack did get just as hot though because it was a Tube amp.  I think Schiit could have made the vent the hole upper top to help escape some heat, but then again I have no idea how amps are designed.  I think they should have realized that the volume knob gets very hot after a while.  Anyways, if you can find this in the $200 range, get it and don't look back.  If you have the extra money and like the sound of Tube's, like me and a lot of people, get the Crack.  You can't go wrong with either.  They both have many reviews claiming to sound just as good as several thousand dollar high end amps.  One guy even claimed that the Asgard beats out the Lyr and the Valhalla.  I can see why he would say that.  If you like vocals sounding pure and clean, get this amp and pair it with a nice DAC.

Is your amp from the newer patch, so it has the protection relay thing installed?

Pros: Sound, Bass Boost, USB Power/Connect, Gain Switch
Cons: No Optical, No 1/4" Jack
For the price of this thing, you definitely can't go wrong.  It has a very nice Wolfson WM8741 chip in it and immediately you will find out what you have been missing in your music/gaming.  It brings everything to crisp pure life and detail.  I found it can even drive some hard to drive headphones like the Beyerdynamic DT series in the 250 Ohm area very well.  The bass boost on it is very nice.  The only thing I miss is a 1/4" jack and an optical connection.  But for the price, you can't go wrong with this thing.  You can hook up an external amp to it to get even better power.  It has a Low/High gain switch on it as well.  Many people say it's better than the E7 and I probably have to agree since it is a newer model.  The only bad thing is, it will only work with a computer usb connection which a lot of people, including myself dislike.  But for the price I paid, you can't go wrong with it at all, it's very nice.

How do you hook up an external amp?

I don't think the price is low and I think you can go wrong - if it's not enough, and you didn't expect it as this friggin hard getting a satisfying sound interface at a reasonable price for people who don't want to turn into fulltime audio-geeks just because of wanting decent quality.

Generally put, it's "not crap". That's the range of quality you can expect.

I got a good deal on these and took the chance since I owned the AD-700 and tested the M-50 once.  Audio Technica knows what sound is and they do a fantastic job for their low price headphones.  After reading that these things have nice bass and people prefer them over the AD-700, I had to give them a try.  I wasn't impressed at first, but people said with burn-in, they become better.  So I burned them in a little and they were definitely correct in that aspect.  The bass started to come out as well as the clarity in the other frequencies.  The comfort wasn't bad at first, but once I had them on my head for several hours my ears were in throbbing pain after I took them off, especially my left ear.  It hurt worse than any headphone I have ever tried before.  So I put them on a large box like someone suggested and they are doing much better.  I still have to stretch them out for a few more days but it's tons better and I don't think I will sell them anymore.  If the comfort is improved, these are the best headphones you can get under $200 easily.  I did a few comfort mods like bending the headband bars and that helped a little but not much.  I also did some mods like blue tack inside the cup and that definitely brought out the bass.  The bass is decently controlled, but it lacks detail.  It hits plenty hard considering the size of these things, but I wish it was more controlled with greater resolution.  The shiny mirror finish on these things had me sold as well.  So if your looking for a cheap, very good sounding travel headphone, you can't go wrong with these.  They are very easy to drive as well.

This is my first review here, so I thought it'd be on my first pair of Audiophile headphones.  After getting these things, I almost immediately found this forum and did the foam mod.  It sounded better, and that's when I got hooked.  I then adventured and did the soundstage mod and it made these sound even better.  At 6 months usage, these headphones are very nice for the price.  I can't imagine what higher priced phones must sound like, but I don't want to know so I am stopping with these phones.  They are more than enough clarity for my games, music, movies on my computer.  I am thinking about adding a small amp but I am unsure yet, doing more research first.
