Nice review, thank you!
By moving into higher price cathegory MX2 has now to compete for example with Audio-gd 15.32 or 11.32 with full discrete amp design. May be the MX1 price level with it's price/performance value was more appealing.

How does this fair vs the Yulong U100 as a combo DAC/AMP??

Thanks for the review.
If anyone has any opinion how the hud-mx2 will fare against the schiit magni/modi or the NFB 11.32 please let me know. I understand that the NFB 11.32 costs almost USD100 more but is it justified in comparison with these 2?
Thanks.

Thanks for a thorough review that explains how Audinst® may have done better on the HUD-MX2 than Asus® did on my XONAR® Essence STX/A, in terms of executing the Texas Instruments® TP6120A2 circuitry. 2Ω is better than 10.7Ω for a headphone-amplifier source impedance, as it works better on the widely-available 32Ω headsets with fewer interaction artifacts.

As a hud-mx1 owner this review makes me sad:frowning2:
But good review, I wish I had that volumn knob!

Thanks for all the kind words. To answer a few questions - unfortunately I haven't heard those Audio GD units, so I can't comment on those. It's been a while since I heard the Yulong U100 but I think the Audinst will have a small lead over it. Both are nice though.

Nice review, as always. The new USB chip is definitely better than the old TE7022L; I do wish they'd implemented async and UAC2 to support 24/192, though, but I guess they didn't want to deal with the licensing fees for software (either that or write it themselves).
I think the TPA6120 is a great little chip amp, but that OI is problematic for IEM users, even if Audinst corrected it with ferrites (or whatever they did).

Great Review! Your Audinst HUD Mx1 review was what initially got me interested in Audinst products. Now I'm very happy with my Audinst HUD MX2 which I bought thanks to the impressions you posted in the mx2 thread.

I'm dead stuck between the Modi and the Audinst MX1. How would these two fair against each other given that you've heard the Audinst XM1? Or perhaps against the ODAC?

^The Odac is generally considered a tad better than the Modi. I think the audinst hud-mx1 is a fantastic dac, but I haven't heard the modi. But remember, differences between dacs are often quite modest. Especially between good dacs like the ODAC and hud-mx1. Don't think you can go wrong with either of them tb.

So basically, just go with whichever option is cheaper lol since all their differences are less than 3% or so?

^unless you have an ultra resolving amp and headphone, yes.
