Grill with logo is at an angle on one side
My T1 sound fine. I just noticed this evening that one of the grills seems to be at an angle, like as if it had rotated a little clockwise. The grill seems to be pretty solidly in place, and may have been in this position for some time. Any suggestions or comment So? And this should be in the...- alcyst

Article on current New Scientist website "why we love messy sound"
This website has plenty of discussion on good sound vs enjoyable sound, with this forum being a bit more oriented to "good" sound. Before someone gets into discussing immaculate recordings of appalling acoustics and vice versa.... ...the current version of the New Scientist website has an...- alcyst

Will itunes mess up my files? Managing a database with mixed file formats (aiff, flac, wav, DSD)
I originally used iTunes to manage my music library and it worked. Over the last while I've purchased formats that iTunes won't play (DSD, higher sampling rates), and I put all of those in a separate set of folders. I use JRiver to play those files. That worked as long as there was a modest...- alcyst

High end DACs are appearing in big numbers
Reading Stereophile, browsing computeraudiophile and digitalaudioblog I'm struck by the number of high end DACs appearing out there in the 2,000 to 7,000 price range. There appears to be a huge range and choice, though I wonder if there are too many for specialist retailers and agents to handle...- alcyst

MacBook stops playing audio when lid is closed
This evening I started to use my MacBook to feed a DAC. since I am using the Apple Remote app I didn't think I needed the lid open, but it turns out that closing the lid puts he laptop into some sort f power save mde, in which condition it won't play music. Is there a way of stopping the...- alcyst

German companies make some good headphones, there must be some equally good amp makers
Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic spring to mind. If there is a culture of headphone appreciation there may also be some good amps. I know of spl, and have seen things written about Cayin and Vincent. Any others worth a look?- alcyst

New products from Bel Canto
Not sure where this belongs, so I will post it twice (here & Headphone amps (full size); looking at the Bel Canto website, they were at CES and announced a number of products, at least 2 of which have special interest here; "e.One DAC2.5 192kHz 24-bit DAC Control Center Independent DAC...- alcyst

Sonos owners club
Why not? They are great units. Though with a Sonos, just as with any media server type setup, is the "Source component" the HD, the computer (if one is in the data stream), the Sonos, or a DAC? I have a Sonos setup and went to my local high-end audio shop for advice on what sort of DAC...- alcyst

PS Audio Perfectwave DAC
There are some Perfectwave owners here, maybe they can answer a question; is any individual unit switchable between 110 and 220 volts, or are they voltage region specific? There is no switching switching on the back, unlike most other audio gear.- alcyst

Getting the best DAC performance from EMU 0404
I am using the EMU 0404 USB as a DAC (Wadia transport & Phonitor). I am using a digital coax cable for input, and a pair of 1/4 TRS to XLR cables for output. Anthing else I can do to optimise the DAC output from the EMU? As far as I can see the only choice I have is the volume level I set on...- alcyst

How to play SACDs?
I have been looking into high quality playback of discs, and either I am misreading things or there are only a few SACD players out there? Sony don't seem to have any (?, the new PS3 wont play SACDs), Denon have 1 (DVD-A1UDCI at about USD 4500). Pioneer may have 1. Anybody care to make...- alcyst

Getting custom ear molds is a strange experience
I searched for something on this but could't find anything. I have to say getting a stranger to squirt blue goo deep into your ear (deep enough that it feels almost painful), then leaving you in pretty complete silence, all the time with your mouth hanging open (but not too open!) is an...- alcyst

Headamp or Rudistor; Coriolan or Blue Hawaii
This isn't an audio question, or maybe it is, educate me. The Rudistor Coriolan 2, BHSE and RS A-10 appeal to equally restricted market segments (and may not even exist). But two get loads of (respectful) attention, and the third hardly gets mentioned (& triggers a flame war). I can see...- alcyst

Stax & DAC
Can I run a Stax energiser from the pre-amp out on my DAC? I have a Sonos with both line-out and TOSLINK digital output; I can run the line-out into the Stax energiser, or run the digital out into a DAC/pre-amp unit. Is this do-able, and reccomendations? thanks- alcyst
