DAC recommendations for Rokit RP5 G2 monitors?

I recently purchased a pair of Rokit RP5 G2 monitors that I have been thoroughly enjoying for the past 2 weeks. Currently I am using the headphone out on my MacBook Pro to a 3.5 mini to RCA adapter and some a pair of RCA cables from an old VHS player. I am hoping getting a quality DAC will...

Maverick A1 vs entry level home theater receiver for bookshelf speakers?

I will be placing an order for a Maverick D1 DAC for use with my Klipsch RB61 bookshelf speakers and Yamaha RX-V795 receiver (85 watts per channel). I will be primarily using this setup with my computer as source in a near field listening position on a desk.   I was hoping to save some space...

USB DAC + FLAC vs CD Player?

Is there are large noticeable improvement when comparing a CD player to a USB DAC? Currently I'm running a DIYEDEN SVDAC04-U that uses a PCM2704 (48 kHz, 16 bit) chip for USB audio. The CD5001 uses a Cirrus Logic CS4392 (192 kHz, 24 bit) which seems quite superior. I can hear the difference...

    Something different than the Sennheisers?

I've used the HD570 and then upgraded to the HD595. I was planning to grab the HD650, but after some thought, I figured I should try something different. I've been looking at the AKG 701 and DT 990, as well as Etymotic Research ER-4P's. Granted, the HD570 and HD595 aren't enough to taste what...

    Listening station, how's this setup?

I've previously had thoughts in regards to setting up a listening station. After much research I've decided amongst the following. Marantz CD5001 CD Player (where can I get a silver one?) Sennheiser HD650 Graham Slee Amp or RSA Raptor Advice, recommendations? Perhaps HD650 re-cabling to...

Worth upgrading? DIYEDEN SVDAC04-U to Musiland MD-10?

I just purchased a Little Dot MKIII from David to drive my SVDAC04-U and HD595's. I will also be getting a pair of HD650's soon. With the "source" being the most important component in terms of audio quality, would it be worthwhile to upgrade my SVDAC04-U to a Musiland MD-10? I'm afraid that...

    Logitech Z-2300 vs Audioengine A2

I have a set of Logitech Z-2300 speakers and might upgrade to a pair of Audioengine A2 speakers. I'm looking for a wider sound stage and greater clarity, I've heard that the A2s are very good. I enjoy the bass from the Z-2300's, but I find it lacking in clarity. Has anyone tried both these...

Will a RCA switch degrade audio quality?

Source: DIYEDEN SVDAC04-U Cans: Sennheiser HD595 Amp: Little Dot II++ (haven't bought yet) The DIYEDEN USB DAC already has a pre-amplified headphone jack. From what I've read, amplifying the pre-amped output is a bad idea. I'm left with using the RCA output jacks, but these jacks are used...

    Marantz CD-5001 vs SONY SCD-CE595

Has anyone compared these players? From what I have read, CD's on the CD-5001 will sound as good as or better than SACD's on the CD595. Likewise, the CD-5001 also costs 3 times as much as the CE595. I'm using a pair of HD595 headphones, but plan on upgrading to HD650 later on. In terms of...

    Marantz CD5001, HD595, amp suggestions?

I'm looking to setup a small CD listening station, complete with a nice couch and all. I'm open to suggestions, but so far I'm looking to buy the following - Marantz CD5001 CD player - HD650 /w equinox cables (later on) I need an amp to power the HD595's I have right now, and later on...

    DIYEDEN SVDAC04 opinions?

http://www.pacificvalve.us/DIYEDENSV04.html Looks like a cheap solution, currently I have a pair of HD595's and I'm using it with my notebook (Dell XPS M1210, SigmaTel Audio). I'm not looking for anything loud, the HD595's even at 10% volume is too loud for me. I will also hook up the DAC to...

MAXIMUM noise canceling headphones or earbuds

First off, I do not care about the quality of sound or if there is sound. I just need the best noise canceling I can get. I would like to filter out lower frequency sounds such as banging on the door and banging through the walls (comming from upstairs apartment). Likewise, I would also like to...

use optical with analog headphones how?

After reading the AV710 review, it would seem that it would be best to use the optical out or it seems that I would be wasiting my AV710! I have a pair of HD570 headphones and I'd like to use the optical out, how could I go about doing this? In Stephonovich's review, he used a AD832AN-powered...

hd570's, best audio quality sound card? audigy 2 zs?

I've been looking around at sound cards for a while now, but I don't have personal experience with any of them besides the Audigy 2. There's a wave of new cards out now, inlcuding the MAUDIO line and the Audigy 2 ZS. Which sound card is the best for sound quality? In addition, if I were to...

    headsave amps, for hd570

I have a pair of HD570's and after some research, I've decided on getting an amp from headsave (http://members.rogers.com/jdfourn/startup.htm). I'm looking at either a HeadSave minime or a Headsave ultra. Are these good for use with HD570's and a Sound Blaster Audigy 2? If any of you are...

    hd570 analog vs hd570 digital 2003

I've been shopping around for headphones to replace my worn out HD570's. I'm thinking of getting the same pair again. I recently saw a HD570 2003 version that was labled digital. What is the difference between my headphones (I'm thinking it's analog, I don't know how to tell) and digital...

easy way to clean pads on hd570?

I've had my HD570's for a little over two years now, and often the pads get a little dusty. I normally use masking tape to clean them, but I'm beginning to see wear on the pads, is there a better way to clean them? As well, can the fabric on the pads be replaced?
