    I realize it is a bit of apples vs oranges, but I will compare these to the Sennheiser HD 600 sound, since I sometimes use those to mix recordings with, and many know their sound. Assuming good sources and amplification, the HD 380 pro sounds as balanced through the mids and highs as the HD 600...

    Sennheiser HD 380 Pro cable options

    There are some great replacement cables available for around  $30 at Amazon. I have the 1.2 meter length and it is excellent.     This company offers three other lengths of the same cable, 1.5 M, 1.8 M, and 3.0 M. at Amazon. Search  "replacement cable for Sennheiser hd 380 pro" at Amazon.

    Thanks for your help. I ordered a Panasonic, (SLCT470B), as recommended by Harry & Lumient, for $2o at BPAV. I'm sure it will be a good machine, especially for the money.
