    Messenger Bag.... Fi!

Quote:   I know this is a little late but I thought I'd add my thoughts. Sorry for the long post.   The tarp-like inside surface is a PVC tarp liner sewn into the bag and not bonded to the Cordura. With the standard bag, there's no choice but to line the outer pockets, flap for the...

    Omega II earpad orientation

Nik: I apologise if I wasn't too clear but yes I was referring to the pads themselves and not the earcup/cable. I find that having the large part of the pads at the back gives the best seal. I tried other orientations but the bass seem to get too mushy/boomy or the earpads would sit funny on my...

    Omega II earpad orientation

I was mildly surprised that my searches came up empty on this subject. Anyhow, I finally got my KGSS operational and I've been listening to my Omega IIs and I wondered about the earpad orientation. When I received my Omega IIs, the fattest part of the pad was oriented to the back half of...

    google.com & altavista.com DEAD??

I suspect that you've been bitten by the Startpage Trojan. A few friends got bitten by it and I had to help clean up their machines. I believe that it is a new strain going around. Symantec does not account for it last I checked but McAfee does. I'm assuming that you are using IE. Go into...

Anyone Here Actually Have a pair of Orpheuses?

Okay. Next weekend probably works too. I might have the official jacks by then. Yeah, I put in the can transistors in reverse as well as fixed the ground error in the "new" power supply board.

Anyone Here Actually Have a pair of Orpheuses?

    a) Not to worry. I'll make it painless. You won't know what hit you. b) My Omega 2s just got here this morning. If you are up to wiring up a jack then you are welcome to borrow them for the weekend. I have Kevin's recommended alternative jack. I'm ordering an official Stax one but it will...

Anyone Here Actually Have a pair of Orpheuses?

Actually, I know some people who have used 2 to 5W amplifiers to give enough voltage swing for electrostatics. Of course, the amps probably didn't like that kind of work since most expect fairly low impedances (you would need some serious load impedance to make a 2 to 5W amplifier give up the...

Anyone Here Actually Have a pair of Orpheuses?

You should hear the HE90s out of the KGSS or Blue Hawaii Hybrid. Rumour has it that someone in Seattle has 3 Orpheus systems. He/She/It wanted the same system in three different rooms. I suppose that it's cheaper than having your butler cart your Orpheus around behind you.

    Cult of MDR-CD3000?

*sniff* I'm going to be banned from Head-Fi. Woe is me! That's okay. It'll give me more time to listen to: 1) HP-1s and Maestrobator 2) Omega IIs and KGSS And it probably won't be long before I buy R10s and I think I've found a source for NOS HE90s (Orpheus headphones).

    Difference between melos amps

Actually, the SHA-1 was specifically a headphone amplifier for the HP-1000s. They tacked on a feeble pre-amp stage to it. The SHA/Gold and Gold Ref. both had better thought out pre-amp stages and with some upgrades, they are actually pretty darn good as a pre-amp (carlo uses it in his...

    Modern Enclosures

I'm having a custom chassis made for my under construction KGSS. Hopefully it'll be finalized and machined over the next couple of weeks. It's not as expensive as you might think and we're definitely going all out (i.e. best looking aluminum chassis headphone amp period). I'll post a thread...

“Two queens sisters”: R10 - Omega II

Anders: I agree that most dynamics need a decent amp and the HP-1s are definitely no exception. All said and done, I probably spent $1500 on my Maestrobator but it was fun doing the mods so it was worth the money. Sounds really good too. I auditioned the Stax 4040 Signature system and I...

Clarification of headphone rumours in Seattle

The listed price was $450 but he said $400. There was wear on the earcup "leather", a tiny bit on the headband "leather". Some small nicks in the headband metal and some wearing of the lettering. The problem is that they were purchased in the US so it was probably bought for the $700 list...

Clarification of headphone rumours in Seattle

Hey people of Seattle and outlying areas, I was at Hawthorne Stereo today and they clarified some of the rumours of their headphone situation. They don't have Sony R10s nor do they expect to have any in the foreseeable future. They do have a used pair of Sony CD3000s but that's it for...
