Recommend an IEM without pronounced upper mids (2-4 kHz)
Some that I know of: BLON 03, Raptgo Hook X, Kiwi Ears Orchestra/Orchestra Lite, Symphonium Meteor, DUNU SA6 (and all their variants), 7th Acoustic Supernova, 64 Audio U12T, Vision Ears EXT.- emperor22

Don't take him seriously. Guy's probably hyped a thousand IEMs in the last few months since I've never seen him call anything bad. He seems to think that people who rely on measurements as beneath him. Can't also write anything concise and coherent. Basically, not exactly someone that screams...- emperor22

I haven't tried using the Kato with any tips that you mentioned, but I have used it with Spinfit CP145 and Acoustune AE07. Since these two are hard silicone tips, it brings up the bass and the treble. Both bring the stage forward, resulting in the details being highlighted, and reduce the stage...- emperor22

The simplest explanation is that the Kato is bass-light compared to the other IEMs you were used to. Try using them for one consecutive week and then go back to your other IEMs to see if you still don't like it.- emperor22

I meant if the bass and lower mid increased, then obviously you have a seal problem, as lack of seal might not seem apparent but is enough to make or break an IEM's sound.- emperor22

I think the spring tips are what give warmth to the sound. If you observe this when using the spring tips, try listening to some music and insert the housing as deep as you can and see if the sound changes. If it does, it might be worth it to get the XL sized tips.- emperor22

Ah, thanks for the closer look. Yes, the thin film (the filter) does look similar, but I still can't be sure that they're identical to the filters on the Kato and that it won't alter the sound.- emperor22

It costs $13 to buy two pairs of nozzles, one brass, one steel, and I only use the steel ones because of the sound difference. The filters and the metal mesh can be removed and replaced and I already cannibalized the filters on the brass nozzles to use on the steel ones. The metal mesh included...- emperor22

Senheiser IE 600 impressions and discussion.
If you don't mind me asking, when comparing both, what areas do you think the IE600 really shine on and what areas does Kato manage to somehow keep up on, if any?- emperor22

I've tried the AET07 and CP145. They do provide a better fit, but not necessarily a better sound. Maybe I'll try the others sometime, but tips with narrow bore and/or harder material make the Kato sound less natural for me. You can refer to my post here for my explanation of this...- emperor22

Yes, that's a complain I see a lot regarding the spring tips. From what I see, the highly variable fit of the tips (and for few, the small housing) is what makes the Kato's sound so polarizing. The reviews where the reviewers are able to use the spring tips are usually positive. I heard that...- emperor22

Frankly, I found the spring tips to be the best sounding ones on the Kato, at least when compared to the other two I've tested (Spinfit CP145 and Acoustune AET07). The spring tips give warmth to the mids and make the upper midrange and treble smoother and more natural, but it does reduce the mid...- emperor22

I use the steel ones, and yes, I found the brass nozzles accentuate the upper midrange quite a bit, which resonates with your finding I think. I also read someone describing the emphasis in the upper midrange caused by the brass nozzles as increased resonance, which I'm not sure I can tell from...- emperor22

7Hz Impressions & Discussion
You're confusing distortion as a term that has an actual meaning with what you think of what distortion is. I can relate to the phenomenon you're describing when I try to, as objectively as possible, to determine whether my Katos sound better on high gain or not. I heard the bass as tighter...- emperor22

I just found a solution! In my case, the culprit was the region setting. Apparently Xiaomi sets a volume upper limit on some regions and that includes my country. I tried changing it to the US and it works.- emperor22

HI, I need to enable high gain and max out the volume to properly drive an IEM when using bluetooth, while it's pretty loud on 40 using low gain when on wired mode. Is that normal? The IEM is Moondrop Kato and I use the 3.5mm connection.- emperor22

You missed my point. Imagine if you're one of those people that are sensitive to upper midrange/treble peaks. You read exaggerated impressions about how good an IEM is and you decided to buy it. Fair enough. However, considering how some people talked about Olina like it's the bestest IEMs under $1000 (obviously I'm exaggerating, but you should know what I'm referring to here), it's understandable why someone would want to make a negative review with the same intensity as those overly...- emperor22

And not every subjective observations are made the same; some are more valid and closer to the truth than others.
