NEW HiBy R4
I've had an R3 and an R5 in the past. I struggled with the R3's small screen, but the R5 was excellent, I loved it. Then I went down the phone + dongle route. I've used a Hiby FD3 as my daily portable for quite some time, and with no complaints. As well as a Hiby W3 Saber for bluetoothing. But...- Discordiain

NEW HiBy R4
The wait for audio gear is like one of the 12 labours of Hercules! Who else is checking their order status multiple times per day? Is it just me? Let's see a show of hands... 👐- Discordiain

NEW HiBy R4
Of course I'm not going to return a unit on that basis, I was merely being facetious in order to make a point, the nuance of which was a little lost on you. My fault, so apologies for that. I'll just buy the appropriate coloured strap. And then get involved with the official Head Fi strap on...- Discordiain

NEW HiBy R4
You think? So why did Hiby go to the trouble of producing different coloured devices, with matching coloured themes, and matching coloured straps, only to then send non matching coloured straps to people who preorder? I'd say that's an issue. The logical choice for a customer would be not to...- Discordiain

NEW HiBy R4
One irritating thing.... During the preorder period, Hiby will chuck in a free strap, which is great. But it will be a randomised colour. So if I buy an orange R4, it might come with a green strap.... In that scenario, I'd be sorely tempted to send mine back for a refund. Why can't they...- Discordiain

I ditched DAPs a while back and went down the phone and (various) dongle(s) route...... But this R4 is incredibly tempting at that price.- Discordiain

Look! MOONDROP's First HiFi Smartphone, MIAD01
I love the idea of this but living in the UK (and it's probably the same in the US and the other 5 eyes nations) there are potential issues with buying a communications device from a China based company. One simply cannot be certain about how international relations will pan out in the future...- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
Please be clear..... My comments regarding the Meze 99 Noirs and the Sundaras related to the Hiby FD3 and NOT the Hiby FD1. But I would think the FD1 would be ok with your Meze 109s. I'm sure you will love them.- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
I just checked. The Hiby FD1 is currently 42€ on Amazo.de. Not the Hiby FD3.- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
The FD3's single ended 3.5mm output easily powers my Meze 99 Noirs and can also just about cope with my Sundaras. So one would imagine it would cope with the headphones you mention. Incidentally, it's no longer in stock on Hiby's website or their official Aliexpress store.- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
The R5 is an android device. The international version comes with the Google store so you can install any android apps. I never tried mine with Surfshark VPN as I used it solely as a local player (I don't stream, renting music is anathema to me). And for that reason I can't speak for WiFi...- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
I don't use them at the same time. The FD3 is for when I'm out and about, mainly when driving (using a line in to a car stereo). But also for IEMs. (I prefer headphones). I use the xd05 at home and when out and about. It's a flexible unit; I have the bluetooth adaptor which adds...- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
The solution is simple. Buy a cheap Android phone (I paid £164 for a perfectly adequate Poco M4 Pro 5G), then chuck a big micro SD card in it. Next, construct a huge pyre in your garden. Place your iPhone and any other Apple products on top. Then light the pyre and dance around whilst...- Discordiain

I really ought to do a small review of the FD3, there's so little about it online and it's a great little DAC. Very underrated.- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
I've only used the Hiby app on Android devices (phones and DAPs) and you just point it at the directory where the audio files are stored on your device (in my case, on a micro SD card). When you say "locally in VLC" does that mean within a folder on your iPhone? If it does, then you surely you...- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
Sorry, I have no knowledge of apps available for iOS. I've boycotted Apple since they bought out Emagic in the 90s and then promptly ceased Windows support for Logic. Yeah, I know how to bear a long term grudge! 😂- Discordiain

Hiby FD3 USB Dac + Headphone Amp?
I have tested the BBC Sounds app with the FD3 and it works perfectly, although I am using an Android phone. You would need a USB-C to Lightning cable to use it with your iPhone. To be clear, there is NOT one of these included in the box, however Hiby do sell one on their site; it's about £15...- Discordiain

R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby
Just thought I'd offer my opinion on an issue not mentioned. I originally bought an R3 to use as a portable player but found the screen way too small. It played havoc with my eyes; and increasing font size meant that only one or two words of a song title would be visible. I sold the R3 and...- Discordiain
