    Holo Audio Red Streamer

For me it doesn't even work. It acts just like before, with that buggy version: it boots, but then it freezes.

The serial number doesn't matter. It's just that if you upgrade to the latest version, you'll (temporarily) loose roon support.

    Here it is.

Just wanting to let everybody know that Magna has posted on their download site a new firmware that also works for the older units. No roon ready though.

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

There must be a hardware difference. Otherwise, I don't see why 1) they would get certification from roon based on serial numbers; and 2) the devices would act differently with each software versions. I've asked Jos @ Magna, but the reply was not very helpful. I guess we'll have to wait until...

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

Same thing happens with my unit. It's strange. Either there IS in fact a hardware difference or this behaviour is actually intended for some reason…

Nothing in terms of hardware, according to Wildism Audio. However, I've tried the new image on my RED and although it does boot up, it doesn't work. I wonder why.

My May does this from time to time. Just go around the inputs once, till you get back to the USB. It should reverse the channels. If not, restart the DAC.

What's the difference between having the RED receive the data stream through ethernet or through USB and then pass it to I2s? I really don't understand this POV.

    Same here.

    Same for me.

    In streaming mode, yes.

RED actually can output to USB/I2S simultaneously.

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

As much as I can understand, the RED can be used in three scenarios: 1. Streaming to the USB; 2. Streaming to the I2S (by streaming to the virtual USB RED which automatically outputs the stream to the I2S so a DDC takes place); and lastly 3. Converting the USB input to the I2S. The first two...

What do you mean it doesn't work seamlessly between the two? It does.

I did compare Red OS to RoPieee XL. Couldn't hear a difference. However, I chose to use the Red OS because it lets me DDC to I2S, which ATM seems better than plain USB although I have KTE Holo May.

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

The Red USB is only used as a virtual output in order to convert the signal to the other outputs (AES, I2s).

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

I can confirm that the DDC also works in streamer mode. The way this function works is that the RED has a virtual USB that can be set to redirected to the I2s. After that, all you have to do is to output (from roon or HQPlayer) to that "virtual" USB and the signal gests routed to the I2s instead...

Have you also tried the Farad powered Mano MK3?

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

Totally agree. I'll never understand gear like Innuos's Phoenix USB Reclocker. However, I'm interested to find out what exactly is the Red streamer doing to eliminate any noise coming from the cm4. You said that the data is passed from the cm4 to the Red. Is there any isolation that prevents...

So, in terms of USB out SQ, the only benefit of this streamer over others (eg: Allo's USB signature) is the power supply?

An exploration of Chord DAVE, MScaler, Qutest, and Holo May, HQPlayer

No. Selling the Qutest and getting a proper DAC fixed it for me.

An exploration of Chord DAVE, MScaler, Qutest, and Holo May, HQPlayer

If I recall correctly, the problem was related (only?) to Linux based streamers.
