    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

HF-580 Comfort Strap. I love these headphones, but they do hurt the top of my head after a few minutes so I made a strap! Nothing fancy, deer skin and a few zipties. Now I seriously can wear these all day.

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

Yes, but it will take some work. I made this video a few years ago showing how to do it.

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

Fascinating. I think you, @Hal Rockwell and everyone else playing around with these figured out the (sub)bass mystery. I had the HE-4XX and did wedge some little wood pieces between the pads for that "bass bump", but it's becoming clear that these cans like the pads sealed. I believe @Restatic...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

I just found this. It's not really music but there are some fantastic sounds, depth and sub bass. Yosi Horikawa - Interlude

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

I'm learning how amazing these headphones really are. I just finished a MrSpeakers Alpha Dog mod on my TR50rp (3d models are now available online) and I have to say, the Takstar CRUSHES them in every category. Everyone on the internet believes the Alpha dogs are one of the top 10 headphones, but...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

I do have to say something about these headphones, about 2 months ago when I first got them I called them "shrill" because the treble hurt on songs like Hail to the King . After I took them apart for the single cable mod, I removed all the foam that I added and listened to them stock, and I...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

Single Cable Mod? Yes! I wanted to see if it was possible, and yes it is. I use ethernet wire because it's stiff enough to snake through the headband. I did have to file a halfmoon area in the covers, but it wasn't too difficult. The first picture is terrible, but you get the idea of how it's...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

    1. Sound improve? No... It sounds the same. The wire inside the can is 28 gage (i think), very thin. I might upgrade to 24 gage later but I don't think it will improve much. 2. Quality? I think it is good. I will add a drop of glue to the connector plugs to keep them from becoming loose in the...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

I tried to make a video showing the cable mod. This is my first "how to" video so it's not that great, but it will give you an idea of how to do it. and It's only 4 minutes long. I tried to remove the back grills because I think it is hurting the sound, but the back grill is glued with a...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

Congratulations on your first pair of planars! It's tough getting them open the first time because of the soft glue on the inside at the bottom, but once you get past that, they can be tuned very easily to suit your taste. These are the most fun headphones I own.

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

I have opened these up about 30 times, and I'm still finding new sound in them. I've never had so much fun "tuning" a pair of headphones. Recently I've been experimenting with one cotton ball behind each driver and then moving it around. You get very different tones based on where the...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

It's a bit weird and took me awhile to figure out. 1. Click Upload a File from the lower right buttons on the bottom bar -- Ignore the picture icon on the toolbar. I'm not sure how that thing works 2. Select your image from your computer. 3. It does not automatically place the image. It just...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

I agree with @theangelboy. I find the hf 580 to be very exciting! Big sound, and really big bass. Plus, it is easy to tune up or down with simple materials. I have the Sendy Aiva pads $25 and I think they are great.

You are 100% correct. Everyone's hearing and tastes are totally different. I do forget to add "I feel that..." or "I think that..." to my posts sometimes.

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

Out of the box, I think the HF 580 does NOT sound good. I found it to be very hollow with terrible hot treble. The Wolfhammer Mod on page 44 helps this, but that means you will have to open it up and add some rubber strips and cotton. If you want good headphones without modifications buy the...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

@Miiksu I believe the super hard plastic and the grill are causing the hollow sound. The black foam helps cover the plastic and the cotton keeps the sound in control, so I am VERY happy with the back end. The front still needs work. As far as the grey foam baffles I made, I do not think it helps...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

The WolfHammer Mod - When I first got my HF-580 I couldn't believe how crappy they sounded... They actually hurt my ears a bit. So after a quick run to the store and like 10 bucks I would put these up against the B20s. This simple mod totally gets rid of the hollow/echo and shrill treble. I now...

    Takstar HF 580 Planar Headphones

I've been waiting 3 weeks for my HF580 to arrive. They are somewhere in Sumner, WA via Compton, CA (DHL to USPS hand-off point I guess). Should get them early week, but I want to say how awesome you guys are... I mean, I've been watching this thread like I've got money bet on it and waiting to...

    Fostex new RP headphones - T50RPmk3, T40RPmk3 and T20RPmk3

Hold on to your hat. Start with the stock baffle insert, and then place the Mayflower baffle ON TOP of the stock (fabric side down and a little double sided tape helps)... BOOM! You get (a little) more bass! Two baffles baby! Two baffles.

    WORST headphone you ever heard?

Monolith M560. Even after 60 hours of break-in, they sounded like two solo plastic cups and are crazy heavy. I'm only putting these on the list because I expected great things from these headphones.
